"Hey… is she awake now?" Lily asked softly as she approached Allan, returning from Mr. Andrews' office. Her eyes were tired but sharp, scanning Allan's face.
"She's stable," Allan said, rubbing the back of his neck. "But… she lost the baby. Dylan's with her now."
Lily's shoulders fell slightly. She nodded slowly and started to step back when Allan's voice stopped her.
"Lily—can we talk? Please," he asked, his tone gentler, almost pleading.
She let out a quiet laugh, bitter and dry. "Talk?" she echoed, cocking her head. "Allan, I don't think we have anything left to talk about. You made yourself pretty clear, remember?"
He opened his mouth, but she raised a hand sharply.
