Nagisa wasn't much taller, but he was definitely older. "Quick, we have to go. Do you know how to get out of here undetected?"
Undetected? Sanctuary never even watched anything. "Half of the people are crazy, you might be overthinking too much."
"Well, there's some security now," Nagisa said. "It's not the best, but it's there."
Okay. "Then let's just fly out before they know anything." He grabbed Nagisa. Aguri, of course, had herself.
"Don't leave my car or Kayano!" Nagisa complained.
Oh. Yeah, he would have transportation, and he was smart enough to bring backup. Korosensei moved right out, same corridors, no stairs, the front was nicer, and they were out. Aguri was right behind. He put Nagisa down just a little ways away. "Car?"
"My car is this way. Kayano is with me," Nagisa answered. "Hopefully she's back-"
Yeah, it wasn't hard to find it. He readjusted everyone in the car, knowing Kayano would be in the back with Aguri. Nagisa was passenger seat, and Koro got in to drive. He knew the way out better. "If they did catch what happened, we'll have to abandon your car and just go."
"Sister!" Kayano hugged Aguri. Aguri shifted slightly to hug her on the side. "You're okay?" She couldn't stop crying and she looked at Korosensei. "How? How are you not dead?"
"Oh. It's just an excited particles thing," he mentioned casually.
"Nah, don't just leave it there," Nagisa commanded. "We killed you."
Eh. "I was particles? I don't remember anything, I was dead," Korosensei said. "Then my particles got excited."
"Your particles got excited? What excited them?" Nagisa asked.
"I just needed to help Aguri," Korosensei muttered. "Study your science more."
"Aguri, don't worry," Kayano said to her. "I have been helping to take care of Emiko."
"Who?" Aguri asked.
"Your little girl," Akari explained. "Lola brought her to me. We take care of her pretty evenly."
What the heck is she talking about?
"Um?" Aguri gave him the exact same look back. She pulled Egg out from her dress. "This is . . . Egg."
"Hey, what?" Nagisa looked at the back seat, and Kayano moved up closer too. "You have an extra egg?"
"We just have one," Aguri said. "We don't know if it's a boy or girl, it only comes out of it's little invincibility ball when it's nursing."
"It's not even an egg?" Kayano moved closer to look at it. "But what about Emiko?"
"No idea," Korosensei said as he continued driving. "Do we have a destination?"
"Emiko is yours too though, isn't she?" Nagisa asked him. "Korosensei?"
"I have one. You're looking at him, or her." Whatever these two were spouting, it wasn't good. We have Egg. We had it when we woke up. So, who are they talking about? "Tell me about this Emiko."
"I thought she was my niece." Kayano seemed so confused. "I raised her for six years with Lola."
"Six-year-old? With Lola?" Could be a trick. "Is she a half-crazy cheerful woman that calls me god?"
"Yes," both Nagisa and Kayano confirmed.
Well, that part was right. "Is she a free spirit that's interested in lots of sex?" He quickly looked back at Aguri. "Not that I ever was, she was too nuts for me."
"Well?" Kayano's voice slipped. "She only had night jobs."
"Yep, that's her." What was Lola doing with another egg? Why did she raise it with Kayano and say it was his? This has a trick written all over it. "Aguri, Egg is fine, right?"
"Egg's been eating fine," she insisted.
What was going on? Six-year-old. Raised from an egg, but not Egg. "How big was this Emiko? Was she bigger than a chicken egg?"
"She was extremely tiny when she first came to me," Kayano said. "Really small, I would say chicken egg size. She grew though super quick. She's almost regular height for a kindergartner," Akari answered. "I can't put her in school though. She's not someone we can just bring out in public anytime."
"Is Emiko only cephalopod?" Aguri asked.
"No, she's both, but she's just not . . . very trusting or trustful," Kayano said slowly
"How'd you even know to come?"
"I had a visit from Emiko when I got home," Nagisa told him. "She took me to her Aunt Lola, and then Kayano came over, and I found out she'd been hiding Emiko. Anyhow, from talking to Lola, your Voice of God person. . . I convinced Kayano to come check the address out," Nagisa said. "Here we are."
"Good timing," Korosensei congratulated him.
"Aguri excited your particles?" Kayano looked back toward Aguri. "Is that where Egg came from?"
Well, 0 to Mach 20 with that!
"So?" Nagisa asked. "You laid an egg, Ms. Yukimura?" He looked back toward Korosensei. "And your particles got excited by Ms. Yukimura?"
"Whose particles wouldn't get excited by Ms. Yukimura." Stop. "Where are we heading again? If it's been that long, our stuff is gone in that little rental." Oh yeah, no more cash. No more jobs. No more reference to get another job if Asano was found out, and he probably had been by then. So . . .
He'd wait until the others started figuring that out too.
"We didn't kill you."
Koro saw the look in Nagisa's eyes. Those weren't the look of an assassin on his target anymore. "You did. I didn't trick any of you."
"You were alive, and you never reached out to anyone."
Yep, Nagisa was mad. "Your target was eliminated. I wanted you to stay focused on the future. You did great, and you graduated. I bet you are growing up to really be somebody." Nagisa still didn't look good. "Class 3E was over. I had a new target."
"We all thought you were dead."
Nagisa still wasn't dropping it, but he didn't get it. "Don't tell anyone else in Class 3E, Nagisa. Only you and Kayano should know." He didn't want to bother anyone else with his life. "The more people that know about me, the more likely the government is going to go nuts about the Earth ending."
"And so you still won't tell the very people you should trust more than anything?" Nagisa pointed out.
And you weren't supposed to know. I wasn't even supposed to be here for very long! "There are more important things to worry about right now."
"He's not here forever," Aguri said to him. "Nagisa, I excited his particles because he was worried about me. He wanted to make sure everything is okay before he says goodbye."
"Then you're still going to die?" Nagisa asked. "What are you wanting to do before you really . . . go?"
"It started with staying with Aguri. Then, there were prisoners being changed by Sanctuary, so I wanted to stop that. Then, I realized there were a lot of good people in Sanctuary. Plus, you know, our weird egg, Egg."
"Weird egg, Egg?" Nagisa rolled his eyes. "Did you really name your kid, Egg, Korosensei?"
"Well it was an egg, and it still plays like an egg," Koro reasoned.
"It was hiding when it even hatched," Aguri backed him up.
"Then I'll tell you when you're going to unexcite your particles," Kayano said firmly to him. "Until your Egg can take care of itself."
"The egg?" Oh. "I was good at moving Egg, I didn't really do much else. Aguri feeds it. We didn't even put it down in a crib or nothing, we've got nothing."
"You should consider marrying my sister to make an honest woman of her too," Kayano added.
"Sure!" No! "There's nothing better than the thought of-" No, no, no!
"A new fashionable shirt in the spring," Aguri blocked him. Thank goodness.
Kayano looked back at Aguri. "Egg, really?"
"We didn't know boy or girl. It seemed okay at the time?" Aguri smiled at her. "You really grew up. Still the prodigy sister."
"That's your target," Nagisa agreed with Kayano.
"To marry?" No, no, no, not this again! "It's a quick target with an even quicker-"
"Draw," Aguri stopped him.
"Quickdraw is a western thing!" Thank goodness again. These kids are still going to be the death of me. Did they forget he was full of weaknesses? He could screw up and say something making anyone want to kill him before he even realized it.
He didn't want that with Aguri.
"Not that," Nagisa thankfully cleared up. "Korosensei, raise your eggs to be someone they can be proud of."
Raise eggs? "You're not being fair right now, I set my own targets," Koro told him. He had enough to deal with right now too.
"Either that . . ." Nagisa just stared at Koro. Not like a killer, but definitely like he knew something. "Or tell Yukimura Aguri why it took her to excite your particles?"
Koro turned pink and almost lost control of the car. That was a jerky thing to try. Tell those damn students your life story, and they just think they can use it however they want! Damn. Taught them too well. "My target is getting Sanctuary to another planet, where they can be themselves. While simultaneously finding a way to kill the ones that are bad."
"To another planet?" Nagisa asked. "You mean Lola was right? Really?"
"Anything's possible," Koro answered back. "Now listen you two. Middle school was some time ago. You need to keep looking forward at your own futures. You've got your own lives to live now. Right?"
"I'm on a morning show now," Akari agreed. "I hardly have time for anything at all during the day."
"I'm a teacher-in-training," Nagisa admitted. "Missing days would be bad."
"Right. Thanks for saving us," Koro admitted to them. "We both would have been goners without you two, so thanks! But? You need to live your own lives. You're not in my class anymore."
"Just. Let us know if you need help," Nagisa urged him. "Yanagisawa is at Sanctuary, using a shell of you. There is also someone that helped me? She looked like Ms. Yukimura but didn't act like it."
"Chou Chou. She used to be a student," Korosensei revealed.
"I understand," Kayano agreed. "We'll leave your life alone. It's yours after all, and I'll go live my life to the fullest. I'll just drop off everything including the part human, part cepholapod six-year-old that I raised thinking she was my niece!"
Oh. Right. The egg kid again. "I mean, she'll need someone and she's already-"
"Find her real family!" Kayano said firmly. "She's been interrupting my target for a long time. Sanctuary is your business, god, so she's your responsibility now. You work out your own thing." She looked back toward Aguri. "You agree with me, don't you?"
"I'll try to do something when things are safer," Aguri agreed.
"Oh. Well. Things happen when you wake up years later." Aguri was starting to let the situation shake her up more. "Jobless. In hiding. Raising an egg and needing to find a home for another little girl."
They were just getting used to playing games until they were both murdered. Suddenly coming back, figuring out living conditions, and having an actual kid-kid this time they had to figure out the riddle for? It wasn't on either of their minds.
"It's also a really good idea to help people when they are down, so they can climb back up?" he added.
"I will take in my sister, if she watches Emiko until something can be done," Kayano insisted. "Even if she isn't my niece, she's still a little girl that needs help, and I care for her."
"Just her?" What?
Kayano didn't answer back.
"Lola's weird, don't leave me with her. Let me in too?"
Kayano seemed madder at him than Aguri. Not fair.
"You were just talking about us watching our targets and leading our own lives," Nagisa reminded him.
"I won't get in the way of your target, Kayano?" Korosensei tried again.
"I don't know." Kayano looked toward Aguri, and then back at him. "It's not fair."
It wasn't fair to house him? "Explain your logic."
"You want to help Sanctuary, and then go away forever." Kayano tightened up.
"Things are different from our perspective." Aguri paused. "I just woke up two days ago from being frozen, Akari. I'm hungry, and I'm relieved I won't starve to death or be murdered any time soon. That's from our perspective right now. I'm sorry things are all going in different directions. We all need time to adjust, but we will help this little girl."
"That's all I want." Kayano reached over and shared another hug with her sister. When they let go, Aguri rubbed the top of her sister's head affectionately.
Kayano met her eyes to Korosensei's in the mirror. "I always believed Yanagisawa was her father. That's what she really thinks. I've messed up her whole life with lies."
Mmm. Those were vicious eyes. Eyes of someone who wanted to keep someone they love protected and safe. He could understand it. He could even appreciate it. Kayano had taken a strong liking to this girl so much, that seeing him back alive barely registered anything to her now that she knew it wasn't Aguri's.
I have to put this Emiko up high in duties too. This Emiko was still a person, through and through, no matter what lies or tricks people used her for. He locked eyes with Aguri in the rearview mirror. "We'll help Emiko, while we are helping ourselves. If the leaders let Yanagisawa stay because he took my plans, then they should be about ready to launch the first part of it. They must have come up for a reason that I'm never in this form. If I arrive in plain sight, it could either solve everything and we could stay with Sanctuary. Or."
"Be killed on the spot?" Nagisa guessed.
"Yep. Not everyone felt comfortable with their God of Death so near," Koro admitted. "Many of them aren't thinking right either because of the effect of the eggs on their minds. Manipulation is easy."
"It was pretty easy to sneak in and get you," Nagisa admitted. "Just a couple of tricks and that was it."
"Yeah. They are brilliant but they aren't the best common sense thinkers," he agreed. "I should be able to find out more from Lola about the reality of everything."
"She's not associated with them. They threatened to kill her once," Kayano filled him in. "Besides, I don't know if Aguri would be comfortable-"
"I wouldn't," Aguri said straight forward. "I don't want to be in Sanctuary."
"I know." It was a problem. Aguri hated it, wanted to bring it down. So did he. To trust it the whole time as their place to stay if he did get it back?
"Aguri, you can stay with me and Emiko until things get better," Kayano recommended.
"Your sister's really missed you," he dragged out the phrasing. "She's so sweeet and caring. It has been awhile."
"You can't come unless you change your target," Kayano reminded him. "Accept taking care of Egg, and I would totally bless a wedding too."
"Kayano!" Nagisa scolded her with a word. At least one of them remembered his weakness.
"Akari, you need to stop this wedding talk," Aguri tried to calm her sister.
"But, Yanagisawa. I don't want him to get you again, he's not far away, and you have such a small baby. I don't know why he froze you and Egg, but he treated you so terrible, and he wanted to marry you." Kayano started to rub at her eyes. "If you marry anyone else, he can't pull anymore tricks."
"He's not pulling any tricks on me," Aguri assured her.
"He lied to me!" Kayano yelled. "He went with my perception, put in tentacles, he could have killed me and for what reason? None except to kill his enemy! And now, I have a little girl that I thought was my niece I want to help, and a real niece or nephew that's this fragile little thing, and he wants to take off and die and leave it! It's bad enough I could almost kill him again! The only one who cared for you. The only one who keeps doing this to me!"
Ahhhhhh . . . this is why he never wanted to contact his old class. All those feelings, the betrayal, remembering the tentacles, the fear, it was all coming back to Kayano. I'm not helping the situation either, I keep calling her by her class name. It wasn't her name. "Yukimura Akari." That stirred her to look at him. "You're right. The freezing for her was caused by Lola. Yanagisawa had different plans for her and Egg. Nobody knows if Emiko is important. I can't say you are right or wrong."
" . . ." She just blinked at him. "That's it?"
"Yeah," he concluded. "He could be out there waiting for her once he knows she's gone. Probably been running his tests, too busy to notice the time." Oh, those poor people. Who knew what he was doing in his name?
"Korosensei." Nagisa almost had killer in his voice. "That was pointless to say to her."
Pretty much.
"Are you going to help with my new niece and Emiko?" Akari asked him exhaustively.
"I'll decide? Just, let me meet this Emiko. I'll take care of the conversation, Akari," he promised her.
"Oh, I should show you a picture." Akari got out her wallet and showed it to Aguri.
"Ah?" Aguri covered her mouth, but she was definitely smiling. "She's different."
"She is different," Akari insisted. "She is different and wonderful and deserves her real family. Egg is wonderful too. I'll pay for a wedding ceremony if you want one later, just to keep in mind."
Oh! "Akari, what did I just go over with you?" Korosensei pointed out.
"Nothing," Nagisa interrupted. "You just said a lot of words to her, and it equaled nothing."
Oh. Right.
"Do you really not know your last name?" Akari asked him.
" . . . of Death?" he said.
"If Aguri marries you, what would her last name be?" Akari asked again.
Oy. "I'd just take her last name, why not?"
Nagisa looked out the window. "You might want to give Kayano a ride all the way home, she's got places to be."
"Oh, the airport." Akari seemed to remember. "I had to book a ticket, I didn't know we'd actually find you," she said to Aguri.
"No, I understand," Aguri said.
"Can you come with me?" Akari asked her.
"You all should go," Nagisa recommended. "I'll take my car home. Kayano knows how to reach me."
"We really shouldn't be flying around at high speeds in the city. You know. The whole government wanting to kill us kind of thing?" Korosensei pointed out. "Where's this airport you needed to go to instead?"
