Hessa tied six white knots in an ordinary cord.
Each knot represented one minute. None belonged to the labyrinth, and none could extend the inspection if the system revised its language underwater.
The Unchosen Witness waited at the flooded throat.

"The task ends when it returns to this side of the seal," Hessa said. "It retrieves one archive index. It does not activate a body, accept a permanent payment, or classify the index without exterior evidence."
The witness could not agree.
Its current choice remained zero. Its useful-external-construct classification covered only completed hearing tasks, so Hessa read the inspection as a new bounded request rather than an order.
