Something inside the mountain pulled again.
The drowned bells moved together. Copper crowns rolled over one another beneath the shelf, and the whole reef lurched toward the cataract with a groan Jiang felt through his feet.
Slate lost ground first.
His rear claws raked wet stone. Harrow's body shifted inside the carrying web over his spine, one arm falling loose toward the cataract lip.
Rill caught the wrist.
Bracken caught Slate's harness.
The pale wyvern planted his split rear claw against the shelf and closed his teeth around Slate's torn saddle rail. His freed wing sagged beside him, leaving blood on the stone, but his neck held while Rill unbuckled the carrying web.
Together, they lowered Harrow onto the highest patch of shelf. Rill wanted the body beyond the water's reach, though no dry ground remained below the cloud.
Bracken crawled over the body and faced the water. Nobody asked him to leave his rider twice.
Another pull came through the feeder.
