Kedra's shortened runner began to fall through the dark line.
Varn stamped on the other side of the board. Hest caught the sinking corner with one broken bar half, but neither man could find stone beneath the wood.
"The Eres pull is fading," Valea said.
Two narrow wrinkles ran from the slack foil. One shone beneath Aylin's moon shadow. The other passed under the brooding male and vanished before reaching Kedra's board.
Kedra pushed herself onto one elbow.
Pava put a palm against her ribs. "You may sit when your breath stops trying to cut the binding."
"I need the board lower."
"Your board is attempting to leave without you. I am aware."
"No. Lower than that. Take me off it."
Aylin tightened her end of the waist tether. "You cannot stand on a road we cannot see."
Kedra looked at the strip with no shadow. "My hand knows where the catches continue."
Valea's face hardened. "That does not make it your road."
