Chapter 413 - Chapter 412: The Young Girls (Part 1)

A great deal of care went into the arrangements for this premiere.

The most eye-catching attraction was undoubtedly the replica of a 16th-century pirate ship placed at the entrance of the theater, complete with a black skull flag.

When the red carpet event began, two teams of explosively muscular men dressed as pirates stormed the carpet with an aggressive presence, making fans scream uncontrollably.

Then, twelve models borrowed from Victoria's Secret walked the red carpet in pirate-style lingerie.

Although the models had put on raincoats due to the weather, the raincoats were transparent, which only added a veiled sense of temptation, causing the male fans on site to become visibly flustered.

After this uniquely themed red carpet show, the main cast began to make their appearances.

Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, and Keira Knightley walked the red carpet one after another. When Orlando Bloom stepped on the carpet, the girls on either side practically went crazy.

One female fan, a die-hard admirer of Orlando Bloom's Elven Prince character, became so emotional at seeing him in person that she fainted on the spot.

Luckily, such situations were not unheard of, and there was a medical vehicle on standby. The fan received timely care and no harm was done.

After the lead actors had all arrived, Gilbert and Cameron Diaz walked the red carpet.

Cameron Diaz served as the producer for this Pirates of the Caribbean film, taking over the position from the retired Kane Wexman.

Although she lacked experience, she had Charles Roven guiding her, and she fulfilled her responsibilities as a producer well enough.

The combination of a popular actress and a major director was quite eye-catching on the red carpet, and the buzz they created was no less than that of the main cast.

Having outgrown her showy phase, Cameron Diaz didn't strike any poses on the red carpet. She simply interacted with fans briefly alongside Gilbert and called it a day.

Once the main creators had all walked through, it was time for the supporting celebrity guests.

Naomi Watts made her first post-pregnancy appearance, walking the red carpet with Charlize Theron in a stunning sisterly duo. Scarlett Johansson arrived with Anne Hathaway, and even Sofia Coppola came to show support.

Jennifer Connelly arrived with Jim Carrey, bringing along the Bruce Almighty crew to ride the publicity wave.

After all, Jennifer Connelly was the lead actress, and since Gilbert's woman starred in the movie, he gave them some face and allowed the Bruce Almighty crew to share the spotlight.

Additionally, Avril Lavigne, who planned to release a new album in the second half of the year, also attended and handed Gilbert a completed CD.

Avril Lavigne said, "I think you really understand music, maybe you could take a listen and tell me how this CD is..."

Gilbert accepted it and replied, "Sheena says you're very talented. I believe this CD will sound great."

Avril Lavigne pouted and said, "But the record label doesn't like it. They think it doesn't fit the mainstream market. They just don't understand music."

"Don't worry about them. Just stick to making your own music," Gilbert said after a moment. "If you ever need help, feel free to call me."

Avril Lavigne looked at Gilbert with her smoky-eyed stare for a good while before saying, "Thanks. If I need anything, I won't hold back."

After a brief chat, Avril Lavigne went into the theater to rest for a bit.

At this point, Sheena Boone came over and said, "Vivian's popularity is starting to rise. I've heard she even has fans in China."

"Really?" Gilbert wasn't surprised at all.

To people on that continent, Avril Lavigne was like their gateway to Western music. It was through her that many first got to know other Western artists.

If not for Lyme disease delaying her career for so many years, Avril Lavigne would've definitely achieved even greater success in her previous life.

Gilbert genuinely liked this straightforward girl. She was sincere and unpretentious, unlike many Hollywood stars who acted one way in public and another in private.

He turned to Sheen Boone and said, "You'd better take good care of Vivian. She might just become the next rock queen."

Sheena Boone replied matter-of-factly, "Of course. If years from now we look back and she hasn't become a legendary singer, then it'll be my fault."

It seemed someone else had said something like that before and the singer they mentored did become a legend.

Gilbert pushed aside that odd thought and asked again, "What about that Taylor Swift I mentioned to you last time? Did you sign her?"

"Already secured," Hina Boone said. "She's a young country singer signed with a small label called Big Machine in Nashville."

"I'm planning to have Taylor sign with Warner. You'll need to help me out then."

"Warner Music, huh?" Gilbert thought that was a good move.

Warner Music, along with Universal and Sony, made up the three major record labels globally. Signing with Warner would offer more resources, though it would also mean facing tougher competition.

But for Taylor Swift, that kind of competition was nothing. She had already risen through fierce rivalries.

To become the next Madonna, she had even declared herself openly bisexual.

Compared to the straightforward Avril Lavigne, there was no doubt that Taylor Swift was the more calculating one and not just a little, but extremely so.

Still,Sheena Boone hadn't brought Taylor Swift to crash this red carpet. The girl was still too young and unknown, not qualified enough yet.

Besides them, the trio from the Harry Potter series also showed up.

According to plan, the third Harry Potter film was set to begin filming in July and was currently in the preparation stage.

The third movie, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, would mark a shift from the fairy-tale style of the first two films and lean toward a more mature tone.

Given the change in direction, the family-friendly Chris Columbus was no longer suitable to direct. So for the third installment, the director would be Alfonso Cuarón.

Interestingly, Alfonso Cuarón was also a co-director on The Mystery of the Talisman 2. For that film, he would be collaborating with Tsui Hark from Hong Kong, so his workload would be lighter.

Gilbert had previously said the trio should work on improving their acting skills, but truthfully, apart from the naturally gifted Haley, the other two were barely adequate.

Emma Watson had even visited Gilbert at the Melon Manor and later paid a visit to the Pirates of the Caribbean set in Mexico.

That girl had even swiped a prop sword from Gilbert's study specifically, the one Aragorn used in The Lord of the Rings.

Then Emma Watson posted it on social media, saying she had taken the sword from Gilbert to show how close she was to him.

This girl was no joke. So young and already pulling off these kinds of tricks. But with the "Hermione filter" and her good looks, no one really blamed her.

Most importantly, Gilbert himself wasn't mad. He even interacted with her on social media and sent her a sword as a gift.

She was just a twelve- or thirteen-year-old girl. Getting petty over a sword would've made him look bad if the story got out.

Many Harry Potter fans in a previous life used to say: "If only Hermione never grew up." Clearly, even though Emma Watson didn't turn out unattractive as she aged, not everything she did was to everyone's liking.

The same was true for Gilbert. He had a soft spot for Harry Potter, and now that the film series was being produced under his own direction, his feelings for it were anything but ordinary.

So if Emma Watson were to be influenced by Gilbert and avoided taking a few wrong turns in life, wouldn't her public image end up better?

At the red carpet event, Emma Watson greeted Gilbert politely and sweetly called him "big brother." She was very well-behaved.

Haley was the same. This actor was exceptionally talented and had already become a global superstar. Of course, he knew exactly who had helped him achieve all this, and so he treated Gilbert with the utmost respect.

Gilbert chatted briefly with the other two actors, then turned to Haley and asked, "I heard you got into a fight at school? With a teacher, no less?"

Haley scratched his head and replied sheepishly, "He was talking bad about you, saying the movies we made were terrible. So I played a prank on him. Just a little mischief."

Gilbert couldn't help but laugh. "Don't do that again. What would people think if they heard?"

Haley quickly nodded. "Got it…"

Off to the side, Emma Watson's eyes lit up. Right! Why didn't I think of that?

But now it was too late to get into a fight. She would have to plan something longer term.

After the three of them went inside, Keanu Reeves showed up to support the event. Julia Roberts came too, bringing along her niece, Emma Roberts. At this point, most of the guests for the premiere had arrived.

It's worth mentioning that when Julia Roberts heard there was a small role in the film for a young girl, she introduced her niece to Gilbert.

As a result, Emma Roberts successfully portrayed young Elizabeth Swann and managed to appear briefly in Pirates of the Caribbean.

Once the red carpet event ended, the invited guests and media were ushered into the cinema. Fans who didn't have tickets scattered and waited for the midnight screening to begin.

Overall, the premiere of Pirates of the Caribbean wasn't as grand as The Return of the King.

In fact, very few movies could match the scale of The Return of the King. That was truly a kingly film. Pirates of the Caribbean had yet to prove itself and certainly didn't command the same level of attention.

Besides, how many years does it take to produce a film like The Return of the King? Even in Hollywood history, movies of that caliber were extremely rare.

You could say that if this were The Return of the King, 20th Century Fox would have gladly moved X-Men 2 to June just to avoid it.

But since it was Pirates of the Caribbean, X-Men 2 didn't even flinch. It only gave up a weekend out of respect for Gilbert's title as the King of Summer Blockbusters.

Earlier on, analysts from various studios had predicted that Gilbert wouldn't be as fearsome this year as in previous ones. They believed they stood a fighting chance and didn't need to be overly cautious.

But whether or not that was true would depend entirely on how Pirates of the Caribbean performed this weekend.

Gilbert didn't care at all about public opinion. He didn't think the premiere was lacking in the slightest.

He saw things clearly: Hollywood wasn't his alone, and the world didn't revolve around him. There would be hits, and there would be misses nothing unusual about that.

Likewise, Gilbert had great faith in Pirates of the Caribbean. He believed the film would make a splash in this year's summer box office.
