Chapter 783, Work from Gold-Silver Island
Zombie World.
Stepping out of the realm gate, Wu Heng observed each cell block through the surveillance system.
The first batch of experimental animals had fully undergone zombification. On video, hyenas and iron-jawed crocodiles' bodies were rotting and vicious, their sizes visibly increasing.
But still far from something absurd like a poodle turning into a lion.
Of course, this was only the second day after the virus injection. Based on reports from headquarters, a full mutation and corpse core development would take at least 30 days, sometimes three or four months—or even longer.
Wu Heng wasn't in a rush. He had plenty of time and could take his time with the research.
Wu Heng picked up the experiment log next to him.
It recorded the virus injection times and the plan for each subject.
After reviewing it, Wu Heng looked over to the corpse king's holding cell.
The cell remained quiet. The axe-wielding skeletons stood in a circle, unmoving. The corpse king, bound in iron chains, stood silently in place.
"Uncle, Aunt Li is here," Xiaoxiao flew in from outside.
Wu Heng adjusted the camera and saw a truck pulling into the parking lot.
Li Yanhong jumped out, picked up the phone, and dialed a number.
A moment later, Wu Heng's phone rang. Upon answering, Li Yanhong's voice came through: "I'm here."
"I'm coming down."
Hanging up, Wu Heng walked out. Glenda and Benny dove into his body, while Xiaoxiao followed along.
Exiting the building, Wu Heng got into the truck's passenger seat and they drove toward the pharmaceutical factory.
...…
That afternoon, Li Yanhong brought him to the pharmaceutical plant.
Through the glass partitions, he could see the machinery in operation. Skeletons in white lab coats with polished, clean bones moved back and forth between machines, occasionally glancing at the control panels.
Li Yanhong said, "There are currently two production lines operating 24 hours a day. The issue now is a lack of raw materials. At most, we can produce for another week before halting."
Machinery had replaced alchemists, greatly improving efficiency and reducing costs.
But that required a stable supply of raw materials.
Wu Heng had originally considered moving the factory to Gold-Silver Island to avoid the hassle of transporting supplies.
But the factory's production rooms had more stringent requirements than standard factories, making it difficult to relocate to another world.
For now, it had to remain here.
"I'll find a way to solve the material issue, and I'll bring seeds for medicinal herbs. We'll have the skeletons plant them," Wu Heng said, looking at the workshop.
"Seeds would be perfect. We've got plenty of land. If we grow them ourselves, we'll definitely be self-sufficient," Li Yanhong said confidently.
"Yeah, I'll replenish the materials in the next few days," Wu Heng continued, "How much have we produced so far?"
"Over ten thousand bottles are in storage, each with ten tablets," Li Yanhong answered.
Ten tablets per bottle—Wu Heng's requirement.
Made them easier to sell.
Over ten thousand bottles would be enough for Gold-Silver Island's market.
"Let's go to the warehouse."
Li Yanhong led the way, and they headed to the warehouse.
The warehouse door opened, revealing neatly stacked boxes of medicine. Wu Heng waved his hand and stored them all in his space ring.
"Let's head back," Wu Heng said.
They got back in the truck.
After dropping Wu Heng off at the prison, Li Yanhong returned to her Central Plaza.
...…
The next day, at the port.
Sea wind howled across the deck, filling the air with a salty tang.
The sails flapped, workers rushed about, making final preparations for departure.
Lilith stood on deck, her long hair tied up, strands dancing in the wind.
A sharply dressed elder stood nearby, one hand behind his back, the other holding a parasol for Lilith.
Tap tap tap~!
The sound of footsteps on deck approached. Wu Heng, hooded, walked over. "Leader Lilith, leaving already? Why not stay a little longer?"
Lilith glanced sideways. The elder said, "Island Lord Wu Heng, I'll leave things to you. I'll go check the cabins."
"Alright." Wu Heng took the parasol and stood beside Lilith. "Still upset about what happened last time? I apologize. Stay a bit longer."
Lilith replied coolly, "It's time to return."
What a cold answer.
Might as well have said nothing.
Wu Heng continued, "Is it because of Guild work? You could work from Gold-Silver Island."
He really didn't want her to leave.
Since Lilith came, the island had become safer, and the Church problem had been dealt with.
The church was still closed, with no signs of reopening for preaching.
He had worried Lilith would stir up trouble, but now he kind of wanted her to stay longer.
He could go out with more peace of mind.
Lilith replied lightly, "Maybe next time."
Wu Heng didn't press further. He simply stood beside her, holding the umbrella.
The wind continued to whip around them.
A long silence followed.
Wu Heng took out a fixed-frequency radio and a portable solar panel from his space ring. "Leader, this is a long-distance communication device. If anything happens, I can use this to report to you."
Lilith looked over, her eyes full of curiosity.
Tools like this had never existed on Gold-Silver Island before Wu Heng.
Now they were popping up one after another—and every one of them was super useful.
The little green box supposedly enabled long-distance communication. She didn't doubt it at all.
"How does it work?" Lilith asked.
Wu Heng placed both items on a nearby barrel and began explaining. "It has two parts. This side is the speaker—when I contact you, my voice will come from here. If you have any orders, just pick up this mic and speak. I'll hear you on my side."
"I'll have skeletons stationed by the device at the Island Lord's Manor. If a message doesn't get through immediately, they'll follow up."
"This is a solar panel. Put it in sunlight and connect it to the radio—it'll power the device. You can also use it to charge other island tools."
Lilith listened attentively.
Hearing it could charge island tools reminded her of the tablet Xiaoxiao gave her.
Xiaoxiao had warned her it might run out of power after she returned.
That she'd need to come back to the island to charge it.
Now this solar panel was the power source she needed.
"Alright, I'll accept it," Lilith said, taking the items and storing them in her space ring.
Wu Heng pulled out another space ring. "This is a gift for you. Hope you like it."
Lilith's eyes went to the ring. She hesitated, then reached out with her fair hand and took it. "I'll accept it."
Wu Heng watched her put it away, but she didn't seem interested in giving a return gift.
Just then, a crew member called out behind them.
The ship was about to set sail.
"I'm disembarking. Safe travels, Leader. Come visit Gold-Silver Island again. I'll have someone look after your residence."
Lilith waved her slender fingers, "Go on."
Wu Heng nodded and headed off the ship with his skeleton.
Standing on the dock—
He watched the ship slowly disappear, then turned to leave.
...…
Lilith stepped off the deck.
The elder opened a cabin door. "Miss, it's ready. Would you like to rest now?"
"No rush. You may leave," Lilith said.
"Yes, Miss." The elder bowed and left.
Lilith sat at the desk, took out the solar panel and radio, then pulled out the tablet Xiaoxiao gave her last night and studied it.
She found the charging port, connected it, and saw the battery indicator light up.
It worked.
Then Lilith's brows furrowed.
Wu Heng probably knew Xiaoxiao had contacted her—that's why he gave her the device today.
And conveniently passed her the communications tool as well.
Who else dares to scheme against the Guild Leader daily except this guy?
Thinking that, she pulled out the other space ring.
She synced her consciousness with it, and various items appeared.
Three differently styled, super cool-looking helmets.
Lilith frowned again. The helmets weren't made of metal—they were light yet sturdy, with a translucent visor in the front.
She'd seen them before on Wu Heng's skeleton attendants.
Lilith examined one and put it on.
Through the visor, her vision remained clear. She glanced at the manual, couldn't read the text, but followed the diagrams—reaching for a side button and gently pressing.
Click~!
A crisp sound. The visor flipped up instantly.
Another press—click~!—the jaw section opened. Third press, everything retracted and the helmet returned to normal.
Lilith's eyes widened. This...
A transforming helmet.
She looked at the other two. They were stylish, but lacked the transformation feature.
"Spending all his time on these gadgets—no wonder his level isn't rising. Serves him right getting pushed around by the Church."
