Chapter 742, Where Is the Second Prince?
On the roof of the Guild building, several tamed beasts stared at the approaching figures.
Wu Heng stopped at the door.
Xiaoxiao's voice came through his ear, "Uncle, there are lots of people inside. By the door are Guild guards—many holding heavy crossbows. The rest inside seem to be merchants. They look rich."
So, quite a few people were hiding in the Guild after all.
Normally, even in times of city unrest, the Guild wasn't affected.
Guild members typically had some combat power, and the Guild Headquarters would intervene if necessary.
Drawing the attention of Guild HQ was never a good thing.
"What's the highest level inside?" Wu Heng asked.
"Level 14," Xiaoxiao whispered.
"Got it," Wu Heng replied, then looked at the nearby skeleton. "Knock on the door."
The skeleton stepped forward and knocked twice with its fist.
Wu Heng called out, "The battle is over."
Silence for a few seconds, then a deep, serious voice responded, "The Guild does not participate in any power struggles. Handle it among yourselves."
A clear stance.
It meant they had no connection to the fortress and wouldn't interfere regardless of who won.
Seemed like they were pretty nervous.
After all, it was an undead army. Killing everyone—including Guild members—wouldn't be too surprising.
Wu Heng said, "Come out and talk. I guarantee your safety. Besides, you can't stay inside forever."
Silence fell again.
Now that the undead had taken the city, could they really hide forever?
Might as well take this chance to talk and understand the other side's intentions.
After a short pause—
The door opened slightly, and a middle-aged man in silver armor stepped out.
Sunlight entered the building, revealing rows of crossbows aimed at the door.
The man glanced around and asked in a low voice, "Your name?"
"Harry Bogo," Wu Heng replied.
"Rowan, local steward," the man introduced himself.
Wu Heng continued, "Who's inside? Not just Guild members, right?"
The steward replied, "City merchants, some family members of Guild members. No relation to the city military—I can guarantee that."
Wu Heng nodded and pulled a document from his spatial ring, handing it over. "This is a report from Rentam City to Guild HQ, detailing Ekow Kingdom's repeated harassment and attacks. Check it out."
Rowan raised an eyebrow—Ekow Kingdom started the war?
That contradicted the local claims that the undead had declared war.
He scanned the report, noting the official Guild seal—it looked authentic.
"That's between you and them. It doesn't involve us," he said.
"Just letting you know the reason."
Rowan nodded, "Do you need anything else from us?"
Right and wrong didn't matter to the local Guild now.
With undead troops in the city, their only concern was safety.
Best to avoid conflict with them.
Wu Heng added, "The Guild can stay open, but don't take missions or attack any skeletons. If you do, I can't protect you."
That's it?
Rowan glanced at him and asked, "What about the citizens?"
"Ordinary citizens are safe. The army won't bother them—unless they do something dangerous."
"Alright, I'll pass that along," Rowan nodded.
"Make sure the merchants and families also stay in line."
"Understood."
Wu Heng said no more and left with the skeleton.
The steward returned inside.
Once the door shut, people gathered—Guild members and wealthy merchants alike.
"Steward, what did he say? Are we safe?" someone asked anxiously.
Rowan replied, "Stay inside. Don't engage the skeletons. Avoid them as much as possible."
That sounded like they wouldn't be harmed.
Everyone let out a sigh of relief.
The Guild still held some authority—even with the undead.
"Will the skeletons occupy the city forever?"
"When can we leave?"
"Why did the undead attack the Kingdom? Damn necromancers—they caused so much death."
Questions and curses filled the air.
The insults escalated—blaming the undead for countless deaths, calling necromancers evil, and cursing the city lord for attacking during a national crisis.
Rowan glanced out the window, then at the agitated crowd.
He handed the stamped report to an assistant. "Post this on the board. If they want to die, let them curse outside—not in here."
The assistant posted the report.
Curious, people crowded around to read it.
As they studied the content and saw the seal—
Their eyes widened in disbelief.
Ekow Kingdom had repeatedly provoked Rentam and even launched a military offensive.
So the Kingdom started it?
They pushed too far—and the undead retaliated, killing so many.
"Why would they do that?"
"The country's already in chaos. Why pick a fight outside too?"
"Rotten to the core. So many died because of them."
......
"That steward posted the report. Now people are cursing the Kingdom," Beni caught up from behind.
"Seems like he knows what he's doing," Wu Heng said.
"Mm," Beni nodded.
Xiaoxiao floated over and hung on his shoulder. "Uncle, what now?"
"Let's head to the City Lord's Mansion. Leave the rest to the skeletons and commanders," Wu Heng said.
"This way," Glenda said, pointing.
Wu Heng, the skeletons, and the three specters followed her lead.
Along the way, skeletons assembled on the roads. Rentam soldiers shouted instructions: the skeletons won't attack, and civilians should stay indoors.
Guided by Glenda, they arrived at a building.
It was called the Command Mansion—not City Lord's Mansion.
Glenda explained, "The front is for meetings, the back is living quarters. I checked earlier."
It resembled the Guild—front for business, back for leadership.
Wu Heng entered with the skeletons.
Corpses lay scattered inside.
Glenda continued, "That's the Commander-in-Chief. The rest are regular commanders or captains."
"Whoa, Auntie's amazing!" Xiaoxiao praised enthusiastically.
"Their levels weren't high—you could handle it too," Glenda replied.
Wu Heng approached the Commander's body and took his spatial ring.
A quick check revealed weapons, supplies, and letters.
Wu Heng opened one and read it.
His eyes narrowed slightly.
All the letters were from one person—
They arranged orders, troop movements, and logistics.
Likely the Second Prince mentioned during the corpse interrogation.
Most northern troops in the Kingdom seemed loyal to him.
"Strip their gear."
The skeletons moved to remove and pile the corpses' equipment.
Wu Heng cast [Speak with Dead] on the Commander's corpse.
The corpse sat up suddenly, cloudy eyes staring forward.
Wu Heng asked, "Are there reinforcements coming to Serted Fortress?"
The corpse answered, "In three days, a 3,000-man unit with supplies will arrive."
So reinforcements were indeed coming.
The enemy hadn't expected the fortress to fall so quickly.
Wu Heng asked, "We want to ambush them—any precautions?"
The corpse replied, "They will verify the city first. I personally collect the supplies."
So they couldn't let anyone leave until the convoy arrived.
Next question—
"Whom do you serve?"
"His Highness the Second Prince."
"Where is he now?"
The corpse paused, "Not sure exactly, but judging by mail speed, likely in one of the towns near Bojiao City."
