Chapter 685 - Chapter 685, The Use of Teleportation

Chapter 685, The Use of Teleportation

[Teleportation] in the mage class belongs to the Conjuration school.

But it also incorporates knowledge from ritual magic and arrays.

This was quite similar to Wu Heng's own [Soul Awakening].

It required mana to activate the array and produce the final effect.

He steadied himself and focused again on the contents of the skill book.

First, the destination had to be within the same plane.

In other words, you couldn't teleport from this world to another. Wu Heng wasn't surprised.

If cross-plane teleportation were possible, it wouldn't be a skill book borrowed for a pen.

The book then detailed several requirements for teleport destinations, with examples.

The first was a visible and reachable location—this type of teleport was very accurate.

Like how Janvito the old mage teleported between ships.

See the location, clearly visualize it, and teleport straight there.

The second was a familiar place frequently visited. This had a higher success rate but could result in small deviations or risks.

The third was more exaggerated—teleporting to a place described by others or seen in images or diagrams.

This was possible too, but had a greater margin of error and could be dangerous.

Even if you didn't leave the world, traps and hazardous terrain could easily kill a mage.

The greatest recorded deviation was 120 kilometers.

That was a pretty wild margin.

And that was just the recorded number—unrecorded deviations might be worse.

"Damn! That margin's huge."

Wu Heng was stunned.

Then again, he thought the skill was amazing.

Being able to teleport from just an image—even with a huge deviation—was incredible.

"As expected, high-level skills aren't simple."

The first time he saw Janvito use it, he'd thought it was just teleporting between two nearby spots.

But the book's descriptions showed teleportation could cover much longer distances.

"Does this mean I can teleport straight back to the Island Lord's Mansion?"

It was faster than the ghost train, and he knew the place well. According to the book, he should be able to return anytime.

"Wait, no!"

"If it were that easy, Janvito wouldn't be sailing."

Last time when pirates attacked Gold-Silver Island, Janvito arrived by ship.

And left the same way.

If teleportation were so reliable, he could have used it to get anywhere.

Even if he wasn't familiar with Gold-Silver Island, surely he was with his own home?

There had to be risks involved.

Next time he saw Janvito, he'd ask.

He kept reading. The rest of the book was full of spell theory and applications.

It was very detailed and even included notes scribbled by a previous reader.

Wu Heng read page after page, gradually forming a solid understanding.

When he reached the last page, a system notification rang in his ear.

[Skill unlocked: Teleportation.]

Unlocked.

He glanced at Glenda, still reading nearby.

Lucky he had this ability—otherwise he'd be like Glenda, spending tons of time learning.

He closed the book and stored it in his spatial ring, then pulled out a water bottle and took a sip.

He looked at Glenda, still reading intently.

She seemed to notice and turned. "You finished? Learned it?"

Glenda knew his secret—that he could learn skills just by reading once.

They were together daily, so there was no hiding it.

"Yeah, but using it still has limitations. I'll need to test it a few times," Wu Heng said calmly.

Glenda hesitated, then looked at the book floating in front of her. "You're sure I can learn this?"

"Yes. Have some confidence," Wu Heng said firmly.

"How about you explain it to me?" Glenda said, placing the book on the desk Wu Heng had used.

Wu Heng looked at her. "I don't know how to teach."

"Fine, I'll study it myself."

As they spoke, Xiaoxiao and Beni flew back in.

"Uncle, the fleet's fine—not a single ship lost."

"How's the headquarters ship?" Wu Heng asked.

"Beni and I just watched from afar. You said not to get close with high-level Professionals onboard," Xiaoxiao said.

"Right. Better they don't notice you," Wu Heng nodded.

Xiaoxiao added, "Uncle, give me the tablet—Beni and I wanna watch a movie."

Wu Heng handed it over. "Go over there and don't bother your Aunt Glenda."

"Okay, we won't."

The two flew off. Wu Heng stepped out of the cabin.

...…

Standing on deck, he enjoyed the sea breeze. Philipa returned on her Wyvern from the dragon carrier.

Yawning, she said, "Nothing going on over there. Wanna rest? We got up too early."

"Let's go," Wu Heng led her to the resting room.

Philipa pulled out bedding and laid it on the floor.

"You lie there... Today I'm riding the unicorn," Philipa said, pushing Wu Heng down.

"Didn't you say you were tired?" Wu Heng asked curiously.

Philipa climbed onto his waist, holding his chest. "A little workout before sleep. If you can't handle it, say so."

"Bring it on," Wu Heng held her waist.

Philipa began to move her hips gently.

Soon, her breathing quickened and she collapsed on his chest.

Wu Heng pulled the blanket over them.

Philipa whispered, "I want to move Milison to a bigger tavern. The current one's too small and tucked away."

The Nautilus Tavern was indeed a bit out of the way.

Wu Heng had bought it back when he was Deputy Steward, using it to gather intel.

Things had changed. Now he was Island Lord and Philipa the fleet commander. She lived in the tavern.

It was basically branded as hers.

Naturally, it wasn't good for intel gathering anymore—just a tavern for Milison to run.

"Let Andviel pick you a good spot in the new development zone," Wu Heng smiled.

Philipa pouted, "You tell her—she listens to you."

"Alright, I'll tell her when we're back."

"Thanks, Daddy!" Philipa smiled, licking his chest.

The sky darkened. They'd indeed gotten up early.

They soon fell into a deep sleep.

...…

The next morning.

Wu Heng woke early. The ship's swaying hadn't made for great sleep.

They dressed and left the cabin.

Philipa issued orders to skeletons. Wu Heng, in the control room, pulled out his blueprints to review.

7 a.m.

Just after breakfast, static came through the radio.

Then Minnie's voice rang out: "This is the Island Lord's Mansion, calling the Gold-Silver Island fleet."

News from Minnie.

Wu Heng stood and went to the radio. "Minnie, it's Wu Heng. What's going on there?"

Minnie sounded cheerful. "Master, up so early?"

"Hard to sleep with the ship rocking."

"Just wait till you land," Minnie said, then added, "Master, Steward Sheila Grey sent word: the Fifth Princess of Ekow Kingdom and her maid are missing. We suspect they've snuck into the fleet."
