Chapter 27 - ch.26

The early morning sun filtered through the trees, casting a soft, golden light over the growing sanctuary. Aetherion stood near the altar, his thoughts focused on the future. The sanctuary was still in its early stages, but already the structures were beginning to take shape. His followers worked tirelessly, guided by their faith in the Sacred Flame.

As he watched them, the system's voice suddenly echoed in his mind. [Aetherion, it is time. You have guided your followers to their sanctuary, and the flame burns brightly within them. But now, you must leave. There are greater tasks ahead, and your journey is far from over.]

Aetherion's gaze shifted, his heart heavy at the thought of leaving his followers. "I knew this moment would come," he murmured, "but they are still building, still finding their place. Can I truly leave them now?"

[They have leaders now,] the system reassured him. [Elyon, Saphiel, and Kiros will guide them in your absence. And the Sacred Flame will continue to burn here. Your followers are stronger than you think.]

Aetherion nodded slowly. He understood his divine purpose, but the thought of leaving the sanctuary and those who had placed their faith in him weighed heavily on his mind.

Determined to ensure the safety of his followers, Aetherion called to the divine eagles, Astralis and Celestaris, who had been watching over the sanctuary from the skies. The two majestic beings descended gracefully, their wings shimmering in the morning light.

"Astralis, Celestaris," Aetherion began, his voice calm but firm, "the time has come for me to leave. My journey requires me to go beyond this sanctuary, but I cannot leave my people unprotected."

The eagles bowed their heads in understanding. "We will watch over them in your absence, Master," Astralis said, his deep voice filled with loyalty. "No harm will come to the sanctuary while we are here."

Celestaris, her voice gentle, added, "The flame burns within them, but we will be their shield. You need not worry for their safety."

Aetherion smiled, grateful for their unwavering devotion. "Thank you. I trust you both to protect them. This sanctuary is the flame's home, and it must remain safe."

With the eagles ready to guard the sanctuary, Aetherion knew it was time to speak to his followers. He gathered them around the altar, their faces filled with reverence and curiosity. They sensed that something important was about to happen.

Elyon, standing at the front, looked to Aetherion with quiet understanding. "You're leaving, aren't you?" he asked, his voice steady but tinged with sadness.

Aetherion nodded. "Yes. The Sacred Flame has guided me here, but now it calls me elsewhere. There are other tasks that require my attention, other places where the flame must burn."

Saphiel, standing beside Elyon, lowered her head in respect. "We will miss your presence, but we know you will return if we need you."

Kiros, always practical, spoke up. "What must we do in your absence? How can we ensure the flame continues to guide us?"

Aetherion's eyes softened as he looked at his followers. "You must pray daily, strengthen your bond with the Sacred Flame. The flame will respond to your devotion. And if danger ever threatens the sanctuary, call my name with all your heart and soul. I will hear you, and I will return."

The followers listened intently as Aetherion continued, his voice filled with warmth and guidance. "The Sacred Flame is not just my power—it lives within each of you. You are its stewards, and together, you will ensure that it continues to burn brightly. Trust in Elyon, Saphiel, and Kiros. They will lead you in my absence, and the flame will guide them."

He raised his hand, and a soft glow of the Sacred Flame flickered to life above the altar. "Let this fire be your beacon. Pray before it each day, and you will feel the flame's strength within you."

Elyon stepped forward, his expression resolute. "We will protect the sanctuary, Aetherion. Your teachings have shown us the way, and we will ensure the flame never dies."

Saphiel nodded in agreement. "The flame will continue to burn, and we will grow stronger with each passing day."

Aetherion smiled. "Good. I have full faith in all of you. This sanctuary is just the beginning. With the flame guiding you, there is no limit to what you can achieve."

As the conversation continued, Aetherion felt a surge of emotion from his followers. Though their faith was strong, the reality of his departure weighed heavily on them. They had come to rely on his presence, his guidance, and his divine power. But now, they understood that they would need to stand on their own, relying on the flame and the leaders he had appointed.

Elyon, sensing the hesitation among the group, spoke with quiet conviction. "We are ready, Aetherion. You have given us the tools we need. We will pray daily, and if we need you, we will call upon the flame. You have our word."

Aetherion nodded, his eyes filled with pride. "I know you will. Remember, the flame is always with you. You are never truly alone."

With those final words, Aetherion raised his staff, and the Halo of Sacred Fire above his head flared to life. The flames surrounding the altar pulsed with divine energy, a final blessing to his followers before his departure.

The time had come. Aetherion could feel the pull of the divine realm calling to him once more. He turned to face the open sky, his wings glowing with the light of the Sacred Flame. Astralis and Celestaris took their positions at the edges of the sanctuary, their sharp eyes scanning the horizon for any sign of danger.

As Aetherion spread his wings, the flames around him intensified, lifting him into the air. His followers watched in awe as their leader ascended, his figure glowing with the radiance of the flame. Though their hearts were heavy, they knew this was not goodbye forever.

Saphiel whispered softly, "He will return if we need him."

Elyon nodded, his gaze fixed on the sky. "Yes. But until then, we will ensure the flame continues to burn."

The followers knelt in prayer as Aetherion rose higher into the sky, his form becoming a brilliant silhouette against the sun. The Sacred Flame pulsed with his departure, a reminder that its power would remain with them even as their leader left.

As Aetherion ascended into the heavens, he cast one final glance back at the sanctuary. The altar, flickering with the Sacred Flame, stood tall at the center of the valley, surrounded by the newly built homes of his followers. His heart swelled with pride and determination.

The system's voice echoed in his mind once more. [You have done well, Aetherion. Your followers are strong, and they will continue to grow in your absence. But there is more to your journey—more to the flame's purpose.]

Aetherion nodded. "I know. This is just the beginning. But I trust them. The flame will guide them, and I will return if they call."

With that, he turned his gaze forward, the vast expanse of the divine realm opening before him. The next chapter of his journey awaited, but the sanctuary—the home of the Sacred Flame—would always remain a beacon of hope for those who followed his light.

The chapter ends with Aetherion disappearing into the heavens, leaving his followers to carry on the flame's legacy, trusting in their faith and the protection of the divine eagles.
