Aoba Johsai was losing ground—again.

But this time, they weren't going down without a fight.

After Kyōtani's spike was blocked, his fists clenched as he turned away, jaw set. For a second, it looked like he might erupt in frustration—but Oikawa's calm eyes met his across the court.

"Don't worry," Oikawa said with a grin that didn't quite reach his eyes. "Let's get that point back."

Kyōtani nodded, and for the first time in a while, didn't argue.

On the next rally, Karasuno's attack came swiftly—Kageyama to Hinata, a lightning-fast quick.

But Iwaizumi, reading the play with razor-sharp instinct, launched forward and dug the ball with a resounding thud.

"Yes!! Keep it up!" shouted Yahaba.

Oikawa was already under the ball. His fingers moved like they were painting air.

He tossed to Kyōtani again—this time a tempo-adjusted high ball that gave Kyōtani time to angle his shot.

Boom!

It soared past Tsukishima's outstretched fingers and landed just inside the line.

"Nice kill!!" Watari yelled.

That spike sparked something.

Aoba Johsai's fire reignited.

Their blocks grew sharper. Kindaichi and Kunimi began to anticipate Karasuno's setups better. Kyōtani, for all his volatility, was syncing into Oikawa's rhythm.

Bit by bit, they began to chip away at the point deficit.

But Karasuno wasn't letting up either.

Kageyama and Hinata remained a blur, operating in a rhythm only they could understand.

Akira was a wall in the back row, picking up tough spikes, and Asahi's presence at the net was a constant threat.

Still—there was a difference from the first set.

Now, Aoba Johsai was pushing back.

The score crept up to 19-17, Karasuno in the lead.

During the timeout, Coach Irihata glanced at his players. Sweat dripped down their faces, their breathing ragged, but no one looked ready to give up.

"Don't worry about the score," he said. "Just focus on your volleyball."

Oikawa closed his eyes and took a breath.

"…I can still do more."

As they returned to the court, Oikawa's tosses became sharper, more daring. He executed a back-row quick with Iwaizumi, stunned Karasuno with a deceptive dump shot, and even attempted a pinpoint serve that nearly hit the ace corner.

But Karasuno responded in kind.

Even with the pressure building, they played with freedom and confidence.

Especially Akira.

His movement across the court was fluid—always where he needed to be. During a critical rally, he dived for a ball that seemed completely out of reach, popping it up just enough for Daichi to send it back in play.

Kageyama, without hesitation, set to Hinata mid-sprint.

Boom!

Match point: 24-22.

The air in the gym was electric.

Then—Oikawa served.

His famous jump float serve—tight, wobbling—landed just inside.

24-23.

Another serve.

This one drifted toward Akira, but he dug it perfectly.

Kageyama jumped.

Would he go to Hinata again?

No—Tsukishima.

But Aoba Johsai read it.

Iwaizumi blocked—

Smack!

The ball deflected off his hands—and out.

Set and match: Karasuno.

"No matter what, the game is already over."

"No matter how much we regret it, the result won't change."

Nobuteru Irihata looked solemnly at the members of Aoba Johsai standing before him.

"There's always a match you'll wish you could do over. I've had my fair share of those when I was younger."

"You all played incredibly well today."

"Now, all you can do is look ahead."

At his words, several players couldn't hold back their emotions and began to sob quietly.

"All right, everyone—start packing up,"

Tōru Oikawa said expressionlessly.

"The bus will be here soon."

In the stands, Wakatoshi Ushijima watched as Oikawa slowly made his way off the court, a flicker of emotion passing through his eyes.

Even though he'd been to Nationals and played against many exceptional setters…

In Ushijima's heart, the strongest setter was still Oikawa.

The way he synced so naturally with his teammates and drew out their full potential was unmatched. He was exactly what a team like Shiratorizawa needed.

"I'm heading out."

Ushijima rose from his seat and began walking toward the court's exit.

"Oh?"

"We're leaving in a minute—what's Ushijima doing now?"

Reon Ōhira looked at him in surprise.

"Let him go. Let's pack up first,"

Tanji Washijō said with a calm shake of his head.

"He'll come back on his own later."

"Yes, Coach!"

Everyone nodded and headed toward the team lounge.

"You go ahead and pack up. I'll find the others who haven't shown up yet."

In the gymnasium corridor, Oikawa had returned to his usual calm expression.

After handing off a few props to an underclassman, he turned and walked toward the gym.

"Huh?"

Turning a corner, he came face to face with Ushijima, who was already there.

"Here to gloat?"

Oikawa raised an eyebrow.

"I came to offer a word of advice."

Ushijima shook his head slowly.

"Stop taking detours."

"There's clearly a place where you can make the most of your abilities."

"But you gave it up because of your insignificant pride."

"High school is nearly over. If you keep acting on pride like this after graduation, you'll only make things harder for yourself."

"And I don't just mean volleyball."

"You're saying I should've chosen Shiratorizawa over Aoba Johsai?"

Oikawa sighed as he spread his hands, stepping behind him.

"But as far as I know, no team guarantees a 100% win rate."

"Didn't Shiratorizawa lose to Karasuno in the last preliminaries?"

"But you're different."

Ushijima's tone grew intense, though he quickly composed himself again.

"Forget it. It's too late now. The match is over."

"I only came to say that much. I'm leaving."

With that, Ushijima turned and walked away.

"Insignificant pride…"

But behind him, Oikawa let out a low, bitter chuckle.

"Yeah, maybe."

"But listen to me, Ushijima."

"I've never thought my choice was wrong. Life is full of different paths. If I had made a different decision back then, I wouldn't be the person I am now."

"And besides—don't say it's over yet!"

"My volleyball career is far from over."

"Sooner or later…"

"I'll come back—with this so-called insignificant pride—and defeat you."

Hearing those words, a small smile tugged at Ushijima's lips.

"Good."

"Then I'll be waiting."

Watching Ushijima's retreating figure, Oikawa's eyes suddenly became distant.

He remembered those times he used to pour his frustrations out to that person.

"Are you saying you've already hit your ceiling?"

"Technically, physically, mentally… You're still far from your peak."

"There are people more naturally gifted than you. People born with talent you don't have."

"And now you want to close that gap…"

"But he said, 'No matter how much effort you put in, hard work and teammates alone aren't enough.'"

"In that case, fine. But say that only after you've given it your all."

"If you give up just because someone's a genius, you'll never get anywhere."

"Believe in your own strength, more than anything. Move forward, even if it's hard and painful."

"Maybe the moment your talent blooms will be today…"

"Maybe tomorrow, the day after, next year…"

"Maybe not until after you turn thirty."

"I don't have much to say about your physical traits."

"But if you've decided you don't have talent—then you probably never will."

"Game sense can be trained and refined."

"Talent can be cultivated through relentless effort."

Thinking of this, Oikawa clenched his fists tightly.

"My talent… it hasn't bloomed yet."

"Even if it takes until I'm thirty…"

"I'll keep going."
