After both teams were seated, cheers from the audience began to ring out around the stadium.
At the end of Karasuno's court, the atmosphere was especially lively—their supporters shouted in perfect unison.
Meanwhile, over on Wakutani Minami's side, the loudest and most noticeable cheerleaders weren't even students from their school.
Standing right in front of the crowd—
Was Nakashima's family!
His older brother, younger brother, sister, and parents had all come to support him!

Outside the court, the referee's whistle echoed.
Wakutani Minami had the first serve.
After receiving the referee's signal, their setter, Kazumasa Hanayama, launched the ball from the back row straight toward Karasuno.
Bang!
The ball was aimed directly at Shōyō Hinata in the back row!
Although Hanayama's serve wasn't a jump serve, the power behind it was tremendous.
But after all this practice, Hinata's receiving skills had come a long way—not quite a breakthrough, but it was no longer his glaring weakness.
He successfully received Hanayama's serve!
Seeing this, Akira and Kei Tsukishima, both in the front row, immediately sprang into motion.
Across the net, the three front-row players from Wakutani Minami took on serious expressions as they tracked the play.
Wakutani Minami's team wasn't particularly tall.
Their most notable blockers were first-year middle blocker Tsuyoshi Matsushima and third-year middle blocker Teppei Naruko.
None of the other players on their team even reached 180 cm.
In the world of volleyball, even players standing at 190 cm are considered short.
So they were at a clear disadvantage in that regard.
Yet now, facing Karasuno's assault, the three front-row players from Wakutani Minami showed no fear!
As soon as Kageyama set the ball, all three moved to block Akira!!
But Akira's vertical was far beyond ordinary, and Wakutani Minami's blocking net posed no real challenge.
His spike flew cleanly over their outstretched hands and landed squarely inside the lines on Wakutani's side.

Outside, the referee's whistle blew again—
Karasuno scores.
"It looks like Karasuno's got this game locked in," someone commented from the stands.
Coach Ukai had also arrived early with two others—Yūsuke Takinoue and Makoto Shimada.
It seemed the three had planned to watch together.
"Yeah, they're playing solidly," Ukai nodded.
"But that captain from Wakutani Minami isn't bad at all."
"I'm curious how Karasuno will respond to his attacks."
"Same here," Takinoue agreed.
"I've seen them play before. That guy's name is Takeru Nakashima—he's not particularly tall, but his aerial combat skills are impressive."
"Especially those tool-out spikes!"
Shimada added, "Yeah, in the last Inter-High qualifiers, Wakutani Minami faced Shiratorizawa in the semifinals."
"And over a third of Wakutani's points came from Nakashima's attacks!"

While the three of them chatted, the match continued on court.
Karasuno led 3:1 against Wakutani Minami.
Currently serving for Wakutani Minami was Yūki Shiroishi, one of their main attackers.
As the referee blew the whistle, he delivered a powerful jump serve straight at Karasuno!
Bang!
The ball was cleanly received by Nishinoya in the back row.
Kageyama immediately moved into position to set up an attack.
He softly tossed the ball up in front of him.
On the left, Tsukishima had already launched into the air!
Bang!
A quick attack—midfield break!
On the opposite side, only one blocker had time to react due to the suddenness of the play.
That lone blocker from Wakutani Minami was easily overpowered by Tsukishima!
Splat!
But his spike was dug out by Wakutani Minami's libero, Kazuteru Akiu!
Though the receive was a bit low, he still managed to keep it alive.
"I got it!"
Kazumasa Hanayama zeroed in on the ball's landing point and ran forward.
But the pass was too low for a standard overhead set.
With no time to spare, Hanayama had to bump the ball to the side with his forearms.
On the opposite side, Nakashima spotted the pass and charged in!
Karasuno's Akira and two others also closed in front of Nakashima.
Triple block!!
Despite the bad set and the wall rising before him—
Nakajima didn't hesitate for a second.
He swung with full force!!
Bang!
A clean strike!
Just as the ball connected, Kageyama—positioned far to the left—sensed something was off.
He instinctively tried to pull his hands back—
But it was too late.
Splat!
The ball slammed into his fingertips with a sharp sting.
Nakashima's spike had hit him directly—
And ricocheted to the left!
There was no time for anyone else on Karasuno to react.
The ball hit the floor.
Point—Wakutani Minami.
