"Alright. I have decided."
The Unit Leader's respirator hissed one final time as he looked down at the iron chest, now overflowing with the tools of survival. He held the frozen, blood-stained scroll between two metal fingers, the red ink of the "CAVE-PRIORITY" message catching the dim lanyern under the dark-grey sky.
The silence was absolute. Even the wind seemed to hold its breath as the Samurai looked from the scroll to the closed eyes of Neji and Hinata.
"Based on what I have found," the Unit Leader began, his voice echoing with a grim, hollow authority, "the evidence does not lie. These siblings are truly blind; their eyes did not flinch when death whistled past her ears."
He tapped the tattered scroll against his palm.
"And this..." he continued, gesturing to the bright red script.
"This scroll was truly written by someone whose life was pouring out onto the paper. It is the work of a soul at its end, frantic and desperate. It is too messy to be a calculated Nation's code, yet too precise to be a total waste."
He stepped back and said, "I believe your story of loss, if not your every word," the Samurai stated.
"I believe you all are truly from a nation at war. You have the smell of smoke and the hardness of those who have seen their world burn."
"BUT... "
He paused, his glowing blue sword locking onto Sasuke's black eyes.
The Unit Leader added, his voice dropping an octave, "...you do not have the accent of Takigakure. I know the dogs of Takigakure and the way they fight and talk. You are not from there."
He looked at the group, his hand finally dropping away from the grip of his blade, though his posture remained as stiff as the iron he wore.
"I have reached a conclusion. I will give you three choices..." he announced. "The first choice is this: Tetsu no Kuni will follow the rules of help. We will take the blind siblings and the sick boy into our hospital. Our Medics will give them medicine and keep them warm."
For a second, everyone felt a huge wave of relief. Naruto let out a big breath of steam. Sakura actually smiled. They thought they had finally won.
"But...There is a condition..." the Samurai's voice turned cold again, "bUntil they are healthy and ready to leave, the rest of you—the healthy ones—will be prisoners. You will be locked in the lower cells.
"You will have food and a roof, but you will be behind bars. You will not see your weapons, and you will not see your siblings."
The smiles disappeared instantly. The air felt freezing again.
"No way!" Hinata cried out. She reached out with her hands, playing her blind role perfectly, and grabbed Sakura's arm.
"We can't get help if it means our friends are thrown in Prison! We came here together. We stay together!"
Neji, still leaning on Sasuke, kept his head down. He made his voice sound weak and very sad. "We cannot accept this. We won't be the reason our family is locked away... please, there must be another way."
Sasuke stood like a statue. His balck eyes were locked on the Samurai, but his mind was working fast.
Sasuke thought, 'Good acting, Neji. You sound like you're being emotional, but I know you just don't want us to be separated. If we are split up in this Land, we are trapped. We lose our chance to fight back if things go wrong. And...'
Sasuke looked at his weak big -mouthed younger self on Naruto's back.
Sasuke thought, '...I'm not leaving him alone. I won't let my younger self stay in a room with these strangers where he might only spill the truth. Not a chance.'
The Unit Leader stood tall, he didn't seem moved by Hinata's crying or Neji's sad voice. He raised one finger, pointing back toward the dark, freezing forest they had just come from.
"Then here is your other choice," the Samurai said firmly. "You all turn around and go back exactly the way you came."
"We will not hurt you. We are not monsters who kill children. We will pretend this never happened—that kids from a foreign nation tried to enter Tetsu no Kuni. You leave now, and we let you go in peace."
The group stared at him in shock. Go back? Into the storm that was already burying their tracks? Into the forest where they had almost frozen to death?
"That's not fair!" Ino yelled, her voice high and angry. She didn't have to pretend to be upset this time; she was truly frustrated.
"We walked so far! We've been through the snow, the hunger, and the dark for weeks! You can't just tell us to go back and die in the woods!"
"Yeah! It's not fair! you know. " Naruto added, his voice joining hers.
Soon, the others started talking at once, their voices mixing together in a loud protest. They looked like a group of angry, tired children who had been told the journey was for nothing.
But while the louder ones were complaining, the calculative members of the group were thinking hard.
Sasuke thought, 'Going back isn't an option. The storm is getting worse, and we might be being hunted by Iwa shinobi after we killed one. If we turn around now, we're dead. But if we stay, we're prisoners. He's forcing us into a corner to see if we'll finally break and tell him the truth.'
Sakura thought, 'He's testing our will. He knows orphans wouldn't survive a night back in that forest. If we agree to go back, he'll know we have a hidden camp or backup nearby. If we refuse, we have to give him a better reason why we're so desperate.'
Neji thought, 'The Samurai is smart. He's offering 'mercy' as a way to see our next move. We need a third path, or we need to give him the one thing he's actually looking for.'
The Unit Leader watched them, his hand resting calmly on his belt. He didn't stop their shouting. His heavy armor clinking as he crossed his arms.
He didn't seem to care about their sad faces. He was waiting to see if they would give up and walk into the cells, or if they had something else to say.
"Wait," Hinata said, her voice cutting through the sounds of the wind and the others complaining.
"You said there were three choices. You told us the prison... and you told us to leave. What is the third option?"
The entire group went silent. Naruto almost dropped Mini-Sasuke in shock. Ino stopped mid-sentence, her mouth still open.
They all stared at Hinata's back. They hadn't expected the 'shy, blind sister' to be the one to challenge a high-ranking Samurai leader.
The Unit Leader went still. Then, a low, raspy sound came from behind his respirator—a chuckle. It wasn't a kind laugh; it was the sound of a predator who had finally found an opponent worth talking to. He actually smirked behind his mask, his blue visor glowing with a new kind of respect.
"You are very sharp, little girl," the Samurai said, his voice sounding impressed.
"I hate to admit it, but you are a very smart group of children. Every part of my gut tells me I am looking at a bunch of highly trained Ninja... but I have no proof. You have no headbands, no jutsu, and your stories—as crazy as they are—fit the junk you carry."
He stepped closer to her, his heavy armor clinking.
"I cannot prove you are Shinobi, so I cannot execute you. But I cannot trust you, so I cannot let you walk free."
He looked over the whole group, his eyes lingering on Sasuke and the blood-stained scroll.
"The third option is the only one where you stay together, stay warm, and keep your dignity. But it requires the one thing you have been hiding from me since you arrived."
He leaned down slightly, his metal mask inches from Hinata's face.
"The third option: Tell me the name of the village that raised you. Give me a name I can find on a map. If you give me the truth, I will treat you as 'displaced civilians of a recognized territory.' "
"You will stay in a guarded house, together, while we verify your story. But if you lie... and my messenger birds find out... you will never leave these mountains alive."
Sasuke didn't answer immediately. He shifted Neji's weight on his shoulder, his eyes turning hard and calculating. He needed to know the price of the truth before he paid it.
"If we tell you the name of our village," Sasuke said, his voice dropping into a low, serious tone, "what exactly will you do with that information?

✍️ AUTHOR'S NOTE
Author's Note!: Three Paths, One Trap ⚖️❄️
This chapter is a psychological chess match where the Unit Leader finally stops playing with swords and starts playing with minds. By offering 'Three Paths' he isn't being merciful—he's setting a trap.
He knows that true orphans would jump at the hospital, and true cowards would flee to the forest. By forcing them to choose, he is waiting for the 'Shinobi' within them to pick the third option: the one that keeps the unit together and maintains their tactical advantage. The shift in tension when Hinata speaks up is the turning point. It shows that even under the weight of an iron gaze, the group's 'will' cannot be broken.
However, the trap is now sprung. Sasuke is forced to trade their most guarded secret—their origin—for their immediate survival. It's a brilliant move by the Samurai; he's essentially told them that he'll stop treating them like monsters the moment they give him a name he can hunt. The price of their 'dignity' is a truth that could lead their enemies straight to them. 🏯🎭
🗣️ TALK TO ME!
I am actually wheezing. This wasn't an interrogation; it was a high-stakes game of "Would You Rather" hosted by a man in a metal microwave. Let's look at the absolute chaos: 👇
Hinata: The Stealth President! 🎤🗿
The entire group is standing there sweating buckets, Naruto is doing his best 'scaredvillager' routine, and Ino is yelling like she's at a retail store—and then Hinata, the girl who supposedly "can't see" and "can't speak," just casually drops: "So... what's behind Door Number Three, Mr. Tin Man?" The Unit Leader literally chuckled. He went from "I'll kill you all" to "Wow, I actually stand this child." Hinata really out-bossed everyone while technically being "blind." Absolute legend behavior. 💅
🏔️
The "Prison or Pizza" Choice! 🍕⛓️
The Samurai's first offer was basically: "We'll heal the kids, but the rest of you are going to the prison. No weapons, no friends, just vibes and iron bars." And the group had to act like that was a bad thing for refugees. Sasuke's internal monologue was basically: "I'm not letting my younger self out of my sight because he's a walking spoiler alert." He's more afraid of Mini Sasuke's big mouth than he is of the Samurai's sword! 🤐🚫
Naruto's "Supportive" Screaming! 📣🐸
Naruto just jumping in on Ino's rant with "Yeah! It's not fair! You know!" is peak Little Brother energy. He has no idea what's happening, he's just happy to be included in the yelling. He's out here trying to look like a victim, but he looks more like a kid who was told he can't have dessert before dinner. If "the talk" was a jutsu, Naruto would be out of chakra by now. 📉🍮
The Samurai's "I Know You're Lyin'" Smirk! 😏🛡️
I love that the Unit Leader basically admitted, "Look, I know you guys are elite killing machines. Your stories make zero sense, your accent is fake, and you carry mountains of weaponry... but you're cute and you haven't stabbed me yet, so I'll give you a pass if you just tell me where you're from." He's literally the only person in Tetsu no Kuni with a brain, and he's using it to bully a group of kids into a geography lesson. 🗺️⚖️
