Veronica and Jared went to Daisuke's office as soon as the message ended. Then Diana walked in followed by Eniola, Amari, Amare and Zuri. Abayomi, Raymond and Mj were the last three to arrive.
"Now that we're complete, the police force from the neighbouring town, Daru district." Daisuke said as he handed a folder to Diana " please distribute the files" . Diana did as she was told. " According to the report, there has been a wide case of Amnesia that's connected with missing people. Whenever the victims were found, they had amnesia. According to the DPO, they haven't been able to catch the culprit and he believes this is above them" Daisuke said.
" Well, this definitely isn't natural" Amare said .
" Wide spread memory loss ? Deliciously suspicious" Eniola said.
" Reeks of entity level interference" Veronica thought.
" This definitely gonna be interesting" Jared said, lazily flipping through the pages.
" It has become very difficult for them since the victims can't say much due to memory loss" Daisuke said.
" How can we even help if there's no leads ?" Diana asked
" We'll find a way" Daisuke said
" Find a way ???" Diana said as her eyebrows furrowed, this time her soft voice became deep which made Daisuke to flinch.
"What I meant to say is that the DPO said he has some leads for us and will tell us more once he finds out . What's even making me to help is because I owe him a favor" Daisuke said. He assigned Amare, Zuri, Veronica and Jared to go on the mission, with that the meeting was dismissed. The four members left for the neighbouring town.
"By the way, Veronica are you an ability user ?" Zuri asked.
"Eh ? Yes I am" Veronica replied.
" Oh really, what ability do you have ?" Zuri asked, her eyes sparkled.
Veronica averted her gaze, when it came back she noticed Zuri and Amare faces beaming with anticipation.
"Ah crap, I guess it should be fine" Veronica thought.
"Sp. .. space-time manipulation".
"What was that ?"
"Space-time manipulation" Veronica said, this time in a much louder voice.
"Woah ! Really ?" Zuri said as her face beamed. "That's actually cool" Amare said .
"Not really, there are limits to my ability" Veronica said.
"Like what ? "
" Well, it's limited actually, I can only do these four: Time reversal, time loop, teleportation and spatial distortion. Not that great actually" Veronica said.
" You're too humble" Zuri said with a smile. " Not at all" Veronica said "besides using this ability always come with a price" She muttered so that they won't hear her. Jared did due to his keen sense of hearing but didn't say anything. They continued walking for a while when they realized that Amare wasn't with them.
They turned and saw him admiring himself in front of a mirror door, he kept doing all manner of poses. Zuri sighed, Veronica didn't know how to react but Jared was having none of it. He walked towards Amare and smacked him.
He groaned and glared at him.
"Did you suddenly forget why we're here ? Leave your self obsession tactics for another time" Jared said visibly annoyed.
After a while they arrived at the neighbouring town named Daru district. They headed for police station.
"Yes what seems to be the problem ?" A policeman asked the moment they walked in. Amare showed him his ID card and the man understood at once, he led them to the DPO office.
"Sir, they're here"
"Bring them in"
" I really appreciate you for coming " He said.
" No problem sir, we heard about the situation" Amare said.
" It is indeed very disturbing, all the missing victims that were found suddenly had amnesia and the situation keeps escalating" the DPO said. He started explaining how the victims' amnesia started as them forgetting basic things, their condition worsened to the point they became disoriented. Veronica took note of what he said in her journal.
"Can you lead us to the victims" Zuri stated.
" Sure" the DPO said.
He led them out of the station and took them to a nearby hospital. As they entered, he asked one of the nurses where the patients with amnesia were kept.
"They've been transferred to the psychiatric ward" she replied.
The DPO furrowed his brows at this "The psychiatric ward ? They weren't there the last time I checked."
" Their condition has gotten worse, iys best if you see it for yourself." The nurse said. With a calm, practiced air, the nurse led her into the psychiatric ward, the heavy doors opening onto the patients' wing. They were met with a very unpleasant sight, the patients looked hollowed out, as if something was eating them up from the inside, they all had lifeless eyes. Some wore faint eerie smiles, some were busy muttering something only them could understand.
"This definitely isn't the work of an ordinary person, this has gone way beyond amnesia" Veronica thought being disturbed by the sight.
The DPO's eyes widened. "Wait ? What on Earth happened ? It wasn't this bad the last time I checked."
" I'm aware, as I said, they're deteriorating rapidly." The nurse said
