Chapter 13 - Family blessings

On the way to Laurdy's house, he was at peace on her shoulder. As the carriage was heading towards the house. She woke him up gently and tapped his back. She told him they will be arriving soon. They need to prepare themselves for the next step for them to be recognized by his family. In the Laurdy's manor the families and their bloodline are waiting. The elders will give them blessings and their will for the two of them. It is a symbolic ritual that has been passed down from generation to generation of the house of Laurdy. Each child of the bloodlinethat will get married has to go through it. It symbolizes the family's guidance for the new branch of their family.

An offering, sending off goodwill, inheritance, rights, and recognition. She doesn't expect much of what the family will give them. A piece of land and a small house would be enough for her. A place for her to grow and to have her peace. A memory that they will share.

The carriage stops in the distance—he then goes out to the carriage, waiting for her. She then grabs his hand and stands by his side. In the distance there is a golden light. She saw fifteen elder people in front of his family manor. Aiden's mother is carrying the golden lights. It was civil twilight; the landscape of the beautiful horizon could be seen at the back of the manor. The golden lightshines and guides two people to walk towards it.

He then kneels in front of her—may the blessings of my family be with us. He gently kisses her hands—for a second she sees his eyes glow brighter than the fireflies around. The two of them walk towards the manor. Fireflies guide them towards the golden light. As they keep walking, the sun is slowly setting and the moon starts glowing in the night sky. The blow of the wind that carries the warmth of autumn. The golden leaves are falling, and the silence is the music in the air.

The two of them stop fifteen steps away from the family. One step for each of them—his mother walks towards them and stops at the middle. The ceremony is starting—the children have been dancing in the middle for the past fifteen minutes. The elders then stamped their cane, making the place

in total silence. The two of them in the distance kneel and bow their heads fifteen times. Then the elders start chanting at where they are standing. The sounds from their canes are in sync, creating a melody offering their blessings for them. The golden lights are slowly vanishing. The moon is giving them light. Even though her head is on the ground, she can feel their dark blue eyes glowing. It makes her spine shiver—she feels it in her bones. A beauty resembles the sky above them. The ritual lasts for two hours outside the manor.
