Chapter 53 - The strongest

Inside the collapsing center of the two domains, the physics of the world began to unravel. Kaiusuku's gears, forged from the cold, unyielding metal of absolute duty, ground against the crushing, overwhelming sensory overload of Gojo's Infinite Void.

The space between them crackled with violet and blue lightning.

"Your Sentry is impressive, Kaiusuku," Gojo remarked, his voice amplified by the sheer density of the cursed energy surrounding them. He stood perfectly still, his eyes locked onto the guard, his fingers still locked in his mudra. "But even eternity has a stopping point when I'm the one setting the pace."

Kaiusuku didn't answer. He raised a hand, and the clockwork gears in the sky above began to rain down, thousands of obsidian blades sharpened by the weight of ages. They descended toward Gojo, moving with the inevitability of a ticking clock.

Click. Click. Click.

The blades reached the invisible barrier of Infinity—the Mukagen—and simply stopped, suspended in the microscopic space that separated Gojo from the rest of existence. They couldn't touch him, no matter how much force the guard exerted.

"Is that it?" Gojo taunted, stepping forward. With every step he took, the floor beneath them—composed of ticking clock-faces—shattered into stardust. "You've spent centuries guarding reality, but you've never actually seen it, have you? You've only ever seen the passage of time."

Kaiusuku's stoic expression finally fractured. He realized the fatal flaw in his domain: he was fighting a man who didn't exist within the flow of time, but who stood entirely outside of it.

From the edge of the perimeter, Cardcrow watched, his enchanted fabric fluttering in the psychic wind of the clash. He held up his hand, the administrative seal glowing a deep, warning red. "The barrier is destabilizing!" he shouted over the roar of the collapsing dimensions. "Gojo, if you release the full pressure of the Void, you won't just break the domain—you'll erase the guard entirely!"

Gojo paused, his eyes narrowing. He looked at the guard, then back at the shifting gears. "A test, right?"

He didn't release the full force. Instead, he pulled back, his hand movement blurring as he switched his cursed technique to Red.

"Let's see if you can guard against this, then."

A pulse of concentrated repulsive force erupted from Gojo's palm, slamming into the heart of the clockwork sky. The domain shuddered, a deafening crack echoing through the ruins as the Void of the Eternal Sentry began to splinter like glass under a hammer.

The massive force of Red collided with the core of the clockwork sky, and for a heartbeat, the world went deathly silent.

The obsidian gears fractured, spinning wildly out of control until they shattered into thousands of harmless, glimmering fragments of light. The Void of the Eternal Sentry disintegrated, the domain collapsing inward like a dying star.

Gojo stood amidst the falling dust, his hand still extended, the faint crimson glow of his technique fading from his palm. Across from him, Kaiusuku knelt on one knee, the armor of his duty cracked and glowing with fading resonance. The silent guard breathed heavily, his stoic mask finally broken, revealing the exhaustion of a being who had just stared into the absolute.

"You pushed," Gojo said, his voice dropping from the playful taunt to something softer, more inquisitive. He looked down at his own hand, then back at the man he had just dismantled. "You really wanted to see if I was still the peak."

Kaiusuku looked up, his eyes meeting the Six Eyes. There was no resentment there, only a strange, quiet relief. "The mandate of the guards is to ensure nothing surpasses its limit," he rasped, struggling to stand. "I needed to know if you were a disaster waiting to happen... or if you were truly the foundation we could rely on."

Cardcrow stepped into the cleared space, his heavy robes dusting the concrete. He looked at the wreckage of the domain, then at the two combatants. The administrative seal in his palm turned from a warning red to a cool, steady blue.

"The test is recorded," Cardcrow announced, his voice vibrating with the finality of a judge. "The barrier is down, and the city remains intact. Gojo, your status as the 'Strongest' remains unchallenged under the current protocol."

Gojo let out a long, exhaling breath and shoved his hands deep into his pockets, his posture instantly relaxing. The intimidating, god-like pressure that had radiated from him throughout the fight evaporated, replaced by his usual, laid-back charm.

"Great," Gojo chirped, flashing a grin that didn't quite reach his eyes. "Next time, though, let's skip the crumbling buildings. "He turned his back on the guard and started walking away, his boots crunching over the debris of the ruined domain. He didn't look back to see if Kaiusuku was following; he knew, with the certainty of the infinite, that the guard's duty was finished for the day.

"Hey, Cardcrow," Gojo called out over his shoulder, his voice echoing in the cooling air of the ruins. "Since I passed, does this mean we can rest a little?"
