The next day —
Caden glanced at his watch for the umpteenth time, sitting stiffly in the backseat of his car parked outside the dungeon where he had met Aiden the night before yesterday.
"Sir, should we go and check inside for young miss? They should have sent her out by now?" His secretary asked carefully with a hint of worry seeping into his tone.
Caden's jaw clenched. He, too, was getting restless, but he forced himself to shake his head. "No need. They will bring her out."
"But sir, aren't you worried —"
Before the secretary could finish, both men caught a movement from the corner of their eyes.
When they turned to look, they saw Selene finally coming out. Her legs were barely supporting her weight. Her face was deathly pale, and she looked nothing like the pampered, flawless daughter Caden remembered.
Caden's chest tightened. His hand shot forward on instinct to open the door of the car to step out of it. "Belle!" he called, his voice carrying both relief and worry.
