Selene was taken aback. She hadn't expected her hand would be caught like that —firmly, unhesitatingly. No one had ever dared to touch her so boldly … so rudely.
But this woman —the one she had started to hate the most —had the audacity.
Her gaze turned icy to glare at Arwen. However, Arwen didn't flinch.
Her eyes remained just as sharp. "Is that answer so difficult, Ms. Martin, that you couldn't give it?"
Selene gritted her teeth, trying to suppress her irritation. But when she realized Aiden was also present, she quickly composed herself and pulled her lips into a polite smile.
"It's not," she said sweetly. "I was just taken aback to find you so vigilant. I wasn't going to harm you."
She turned to Aiden and continued, still keeping her smile intact. "I merely intended to check his temperature. I heard he hadn't been well. I tried earlier, but then …" She looked back at Arwen. "You arrived, and he left to receive you at the door."
