Ampere's joke left Faraday extremely embarrassed. He never minded others attacking him personally, but toward his mentor Sir Humphry Davy, despite Davy's later years of exclusion and suppression of Faraday, Faraday never bore any resentment toward his mentor. On the contrary, he has always been grateful to Davy.
When Faraday was too poor to attend school, merely due to a letter, Davy personally named Faraday to come to the Royal Society as his apprentice. Although the experimental work was tough, as long as Faraday had questions, Davy would always answer them, teaching him experiments hand in hand. And whenever Davy's wife wanted to send away the poor boy she disliked, Davy would always come up smilingly to smooth things over and protect Faraday.
Because of this, Faraday was able to grow step by step to where he is now.
