Genshin Impact: I'm The Envoy of Snezhnaya
Chapter 435: He Wants to Kill Dvalin
Kill Dvalin?
Bai Luo sometimes acted without considering the consequences, but he wasn't stupid.
Killing Dvalin at a time like this would be like kicking a hornet's nest.
He wasn't the real Anemo Archon. He couldn't simply solve every problem with an "ehe."
Looking at Dvalin, who had willingly offered up his head, Bai Luo raised the greatsword high above him as the dagger in his hand transformed.
Kill him?
Not exactly.
Bai Luo only intended to knock him unconscious and deal with the situation afterward.
But in the eyes of everyone else, his actions looked exactly like he was about to behead Dvalin.
"Not good! He's going to kill Dvalin!"
While Dvalin and Bai Luo had been confronting each other atop the Knights of Favonius headquarters, Jean had already been rushing toward them.
Seeing the massive sword raised in Bai Luo's hand, she didn't even have time to wonder why the scene felt strangely familiar.
She knew enough about the combat capabilities of the Harbingers.
As a result, she had absolutely no doubt that Bai Luo possessed the strength to kill the weakened Dvalin.
No matter what happened, Dvalin could not be allowed to die.
Wind gathered around her Sword of Favonius.
Yet before she could make a move, a shockwave blasted her backward.
BZZZZ—
A portal radiating the aura of the Abyss unfolded behind Dvalin just before Bai Luo's attack could fall.
The shockwave had originated from within it.
"ROAR!"
The portal's suction acted like an invisible giant hand, desperately pulling at Dvalin, who had wanted Bai Luo to end his life.
All Dvalin could do was struggle against the chains the Abyss had wrapped around him.
His claws weakly grasped at empty air, trying to hold onto something.
But it was futile.
Amid sorrowful cries, Dvalin was dragged into the portal.
Then he vanished completely.
Perhaps fearing that Bai Luo might pursue him, the portal snapped shut the instant Dvalin was fully inside.
Standing atop the Knights of Favonius headquarters, Bai Luo remained frozen in the posture of someone who had just thrown something.
His gaze drifted thoughtfully toward the direction of Stormterror's Lair.
"Did... did he kill the dragon?"
Floating beside Lumine, Paimon failed to notice her companion's unusual condition.
She stared fearfully at the black-clad figure on the rooftop while clutching Lumine's clothing tightly.
Jean and the others, who had dealt with the Abyss before, could tell that the dark, ominous portal was the work of Abyssal forces.
But from Paimon's perspective, things looked different.
Bai Luo had raised his sword.
Then that strange portal had appeared.
It looked almost as if he had summoned it himself.
Yet Lumine didn't respond.
She was trembling uncontrollably.
Because the moment Bai Luo raised his sword, fragments of forgotten memories surfaced from the depths of her mind.
A star falling upon Mondstadt.
A nation consumed by flames.
Her hand gripping her brother's.
And...
A strange god.
"T-Traveler? What's wrong? You're shaking so much!"
Paimon finally noticed something was wrong.
Seeing Lumine's condition rapidly worsening, she reached out, trying to snap her back to reality.
Normally, Paimon wasn't even strong enough to pull a Slime.
Yet after touching Lumine, the Traveler's knees suddenly gave way.
She collapsed to the ground.
And in the instant before she lost consciousness, a single word escaped her lips:
"Brother..."
. . .
The dark clouds dispersed.
Mondstadt once again regained its usual prosperity.
Those who had hidden in their homes or shelters emerged onto the streets.
Even many people who had temporarily fled the city returned to their homeland with their families.
Countless citizens had witnessed Bai Luo raise his sword, followed by Stormterror being "swallowed" by that mysterious phenomenon.
To them, the conclusion was obvious.
The dragon had been slain by the mysterious Fatui expert.
The Dragon Crisis was over.
Although the Knights of Favonius repeatedly explained that the dragon had not actually died, almost nobody believed them.
After all, during the Dragon Crisis, the Knights of Favonius hadn't played a particularly significant role beyond helping the citizens evacuate.
At some point, rumors began spreading among the people of Mondstadt that the Knights were using the Dragon Crisis as an excuse to strip them of their freedom.
Even when Jean personally stepped forward to refute these claims, the rumors refused to disappear.
As for why such a situation had arisen, much of the credit belonged to Anastasia's efforts.
In order to weaken the influence of the Knights of Favonius within Mondstadt, she spared no effort in having her subordinates spread rumors throughout the city.
She even went so far as to make use of agents she had planted within the Knights themselves.
For a nation that regarded freedom as its defining ideal, the rumors spread by the Fatui were practically lethal.
. . .
"Things are only getting worse and worse."
As she helped Lisa organize books, Jean let out a weary sigh.
Having just crossed swords with Anastasia in a battle of wits, she felt an overwhelming sense of exhaustion.
If not for Kaeya and the others supporting her, she doubted she would have managed to get through this ordeal.
"Don't say that. At least we've made some progress."
Lisa, unusually diligent for once, offered words of comfort.
As she said, Dvalin's repeated attacks had allowed her to conduct several magical investigations.
She had discovered that the source of the hurricanes Dvalin summoned was actually the abandoned Temples of the Four Winds.
Though the temples had long since fallen into disuse, the residual power remaining within them was still sufficient for Dvalin to continue launching attacks.
Even if they ignored the temples entirely, Dvalin would eventually exhaust their remaining energy on his own.
However, Mondstadt could no longer withstand several more assaults from him.
What they didn't realize was that while Dvalin used that power to attack Mondstadt, he was simultaneously relying on it to resist the corruption of the Abyss.
Their actions would indeed save Mondstadt from disaster.
But in doing so, they would also indirectly push Dvalin—already standing at the edge of the Abyss—into an even deeper darkness.
The irony was difficult to ignore.
Long ago, the people of Mondstadt firmly believed that after the Wind Dragon entered his slumber, he would awaken again whenever Mondstadt needed him and continue protecting the city.
But times had changed.
A long era of peace had dulled their memories.
They forgot the Wind Dragon.
And along with him, their faith in the Four Winds gradually faded away.
That was one of the reasons the Temples of the Four Winds had been abandoned.
Ironically, the people of Snezhnaya—a foreign nation—now knew more about the dragon than many of Mondstadt's own citizens.
Thinking about this only made Jean's headache worsen.
As for why Dvalin kept referring to the Ausbilder as the Anemo Archon, Diluc's explanation had been that Bai Luo coveted the position of the god himself.
Yet everything the Ausbilder had done so far suggested the exact opposite.
Whenever he was called the Anemo Archon, he treated the title like a hot potato he couldn't wait to throw away.
The Ausbilder was becoming increasingly impossible to understand.
"Speaking of which, didn't that cute little outsider arrive in town recently?"
Seeing Jean beginning to sink back into deep thought, Lisa thoughtfully changed the subject.
The reason she had invited Jean to help organize the library wasn't solely because she wanted an excuse to be lazy.
More importantly, she wanted Jean to step away from all these troubles for a while and relax.
However, there was one thing Lisa hadn't anticipated.
That so-called traveler from another land was also connected to the Ausbilder.
