Chapter 336: Bai Luo Who Doesn't Use the Front Door

"Diluc? Didn't he go back to get some wine?"

After hearing Lisa's words, Jean looked toward Kaeya, who was mopping the floor.

Lisa cared quite a bit about personal hygiene.

But in order to make the Ausbilder feel how much they valued this occasion, Kaeya decided to mop the already clean floor one more time.

Mm... definitely not because he wanted to slack off.

"Hm? Didn't he go with you to The Good Hunter to order the food?"

Jean's question made Kaeya freeze for a moment.

He had assumed his dear brother hadn't returned to the winery with him because he was staying in the city with Jean.

Jean: "..."

Kaeya: "..."

Under these circumstances, Diluc would absolutely not slack off. As the Mondstadt's Darknight Hero, he cared more than anyone about matters concerning the Ausbilder.

Which meant... this unreliable senior (brother) had probably run into trouble again.

"I'll go look for him."

Hoisting the mop over his shoulder, Kaeya started toward the door.

As Diluc's adopted younger brother, even though there had been some distance between them since that night, he was still one of the people in Mondstadt who understood him best.

He was also the most suitable person to find him.

"No, there's no time. Let's deal with the Ausbilder first."

Glancing at the time, Jean spoke softly.

If it had been the old Jean, she definitely would have panicked.

As the master of Dawn Winery, Diluc was seasoned in business battles and highly skilled in negotiations.

Without him, their side's strength would certainly decrease.

But the current Jean was no longer the same as before. Her dealings with the Fatui and confrontations with foreign diplomats had forged her into someone with rich experience.

She had full confidence in standing her ground against Ausbilder.

"...All right."

Seeing the determination in Jean's eyes, Kaeya chose to stay.

The two continued their work, and even Lisa set aside her book to help Jean arrange the venue for the welcome party.

However, compared to before, the atmosphere in the room grew heavier.

The food ordered from The Good Hunter had already been delivered, and the wine from Dawn Winery was ready. The three sat in their respective seats, heavy with thoughts, staring at the living room window.

Compared to before, the window was sealed much more tightly.

Lisa had not only installed iron bars but also used her budget and three whole months in the alchemy workshop to create a device.

This device could use the power of Electro Slimes and the propulsion of Anemo to generate a steady supply of electricity. Though its high cost made it unsuitable for widespread use within Mondstadt, it was quite convenient for her personal use.

In addition, she had placed several special Wolfhook plants outside.

These were far more formidable than ordinary Wolfhooks. Covered in barbs, once someone touched them, the spikes would viciously pierce into their flesh.

Because they were so dangerous, Lisa usually kept them inside the alchemy workshop.

It was only because they were hosting the welcome party at home this time that she had specifically moved them back.

She refused to believe that this time the Ausbilder would still be able to climb in through that window.

Time passed bit by bit.

Kaeya leaned against the sofa, staring up at the ceiling.

Jean looked at the still-steaming dishes in front of her, hands tightly clasped together, as if worrying about something.

As for Lisa, dressed in casual clothes, she half-reclined on her usual reading couch, her eyes occasionally flicking toward the window.

When the clock struck 7:50, there was a sound in the room.

Click

The small room that belonged to the alchemy workshop was opened from the inside.

Bai Luo walked out, holding two cats in his hands.

"Where did the alchemy potions in here go?"

Casually handing the cats to the utterly bewildered Kaeya beside him, Bai Luo looked toward Lisa.

"..."

Because Bai Luo had always entered through the living room window before, Lisa had habitually assumed he would take the same route again this time.

She hadn't expected that—for the sake of her alchemy potions—this guy would actually climb in through the small room's window instead.

Good thing she had listened to Cyno's suggestion last time and moved her alchemy workshop to the library area.

Otherwise...

"Diluc? And this is... Noelle? What did you do to them?"

Since she had already seen cat-transformed Diluc before, Jean recognized the fiery red kitten Kaeya caught at a glance.

As for the other one, that metallic maid-style ornament—even though it had turned into decoration on the little cat under the potion's effects—made her identity immediately obvious.

"I just used a few potions. Don't worry. Lisa should know—there aren't any side effects. They'll wake up tomorrow."

"But I don't remember any potion that causes unconsciousness like this."

Looking at the two kittens laid on the sofa by Kaeya, their tongues lolling out, Lisa frowned.

From her observation, there were no obvious injuries on them, yet they had fallen into a strange state of unconsciousness.

It reminded her of what happened to Kaeya after he drank at Diona's place.

Because their condition was almost exactly the same as Kaeya's had been back then.

"Oh, I just used a little trick."

Sitting down unceremoniously between Kaeya and Jean, Bai Luo spoke casually.

That seat had been arranged for Diluc, but he clearly didn't care.

After all, "Cat Diluc" definitely wouldn't be waking up tonight—so it didn't matter who sat there.

His attitude really did make it seem as if he were attending a welcome party thrown by friends, without the slightest trace of tension.

Jean originally wanted to say something, but Kaeya—who had picked Cat Diluc back up from the sofa—stopped her with a look.

"Mr. Bai, it's been a long time. Let me offer you this toast."

Kaeya understood perfectly well that with Jean's serious and somewhat rigid way of speaking, the atmosphere would become tense right from the start.

Before that could happen, however unwilling he might be, he would have to be the one to liven things up.

"I heard that Mr. Kaeya has officially succeeded the position of Cavalry Captain from the Quartermaster? The Ragnvindr family truly produces remarkable talents."

Bai Luo's words of praise made Kaeya's grip on his wine glass tighten slightly.

After not seeing each other for so long, Ausbilder's tongue had grown even sharper.

He didn't believe for a second that the other man didn't know how much he disliked having his achievements attributed to the Ragnvindr family's background.

"You flatter me. I heard that during this time you traveled through Liyue and Inazuma. How are those two nations faring? And what brings you back to Mondstadt once again?"

Without taking a sip from his wine nor a bite from the dishes, Kaeya had already begun subtly steering the conversation toward the reason for Bai Luo's arrival.

"Hm... I offended some people over there. Had no choice but to return to Mondstadt for a while to lay low."

Bai Luo didn't hide anything. He took a sip of the dandelion wine in his hand and explained calmly.

"Offended some people?"

"Yes. Some rather troublesome people."
