Chapter 184 - Chapter 184: Kamuijima Cannons

Chapter 184: Kamuijima Cannons

For military advantage, the Shogunate had installed several Kamuijima Cannons on the frontline island of Yashiori. These massive weapons, powered by Electro energy, were part of a new generation of high-firepower artillery. The goal: suppress the movements of the Resistance through sheer force.

The Kamuijima Cannons packed a tremendous punch—but they came with equally tremendous limitations.

Their firing arcs were narrow.

They were immobile.

They required a team to operate.

And worst of all, maintenance was a constant headache.

Between maintaining the Mikage Furnace and manning the Kamuijima Cannons, the Shogunate's manpower was stretched dangerously thin.

Sangonomiya Kokomi, the brilliant strategist of Watatsumi Island, had seen through the cannons' flaws.

Instead of brute-forcing a frontal assault, she ordered her troops to bypass the artillery's range and launch blitz attacks directly on the Mikage Furnace's defensive garrisons.

As the Shogunate scrambled to reinforce the furnace, she struck again—from a different direction.

She never destroyed the Mikage Furnace, of course—Kokomi understood its strategic value. But she kept up a war of attrition, bleeding the Shogunate dry.

Eventually, the Shogunate shifted most of their forces to protect the furnace, leaving only a token guard behind to watch over the Kamuijima Cannons.

They weren't worried about the cannons falling into enemy hands.

The Sangonomiya forces didn't have the technical know-how—or the Electro attunement—required to operate these devastating weapons.

Then, the Mikage Furnace exploded.

Both sides called a ceasefire to address the chaos caused by the wrath of the gods.

The Kamuijima Cannons were left forgotten… until they were restored again.

But no one expected that the cannons—once aimed at rebels—would now be turned toward…

civilians.

People who still believed in the Raiden Shogun.

. . . . . . .

Bai Luo rested the back of his Reverse Blade Sword against his forearm, gripping the hilt lightly at its base.

Had it been a regular katana, this pose would've sliced his own arm.

But the back-blade's dull edge made it safe—and stylish.

When the dying soldier fired that signal flare, Tatarasuna had lit up with beacons of war.

Bai Luo didn't yet know what they meant. But he knew it couldn't be anything good.

Even so, the immediate priority was clear:

"Fix the hole in the hull. Or this ship's gonna become a mass grave."

Just as Bai Luo predicted, when he explained the situation to the refugees, their reaction was… colorful.

They began by cursing out the families of the Shogunate troops, then made some particularly graphic suggestions involving the mothers of the saboteurs who had drilled holes in the hull.

But when Bai Luo asked for help repairing the breach, several eager volunteers stepped forward.

"We don't need extra planks. Just rip the beds apart. We'll sleep on the floor. Ain't like we're picky."

The entire ship stirred into motion—people moving, shouting, organizing.

And then—

BOOOOOOM!

A thunderous explosion echoed from the shore.

Several refugees immediately collapsed, prostrating themselves in fear.

"It's the wrath of the Almighty Shogun!"

"We've angered Her Grace!"

They trembled, too scared to move.

But Bai Luo…

He knew exactly what that sound was.

"So it's come to this…"

Yes—he was a Harbinger of the Fatui.

Yes—he did a lot of awful things.

But even by his standards, this was beyond comprehension.

'Firing that thing at a refugee boat?'

'Even I wouldn't go that far.'

Hell, even the Doctor—the cruelest Fatui he knew—wouldn't do this.

'This is a whole different level of inhuman.'

'These guys make me look like a saint.'

BOOOOM!

The first Electro shell from the Kamuijima Cannon missed.

Maybe because it hadn't been fired in a while—the aim was off.

The shot slammed into the water just beside the boat.

But that was small comfort.

Because the next shell… would hit dead-on.

Even that glancing miss caused chaos.

Most of the refugees—already traumatized—curled up on the floor, shaking violently.

Only a few managed to keep their composure.

They didn't even try to avoid the seawater splashing down from the blast.

They just laid there, soaked and silent, waiting for death.

With the power of One-Winged Angel, Bai Luo soared layer by layer to the top of the ferry's watchtower.

From that vantage point, he locked eyes with the Kamuijima Cannon on the distant shore.

In that moment, it felt like a bolt of lightning traveled straight from the top of his head down his entire spine.

The muzzle of the cannon was already glowing with condensed Electro light—compressed to its limit—and it was aimed directly at them.

"Tch..."

Bai Luo stepped forward with his right foot.

Using that momentum, his body soared like a swallow, cutting through the air—

"Ryūtsuisen (Dragon Hammer Flash)!"

With precision and timing only he could achieve, Bai Luo brought down his Reverse Blade Sword hard on the incoming blast of lightning.

BOOOOM!!!

The Electro shell was sliced midair, sent crashing into the sea, unleashing a massive explosion of spray and foam.

Bai Luo landed back on the deck, expression dark.

'That thing's stronger than I thought…'

Had he relied on a basic attack—no system skill, no technique boost—he and the entire ship would've been torn apart.

"Can anyone pilot this thing? We need to get out of here. Now!"

He didn't wait. The moment his feet were steady, Bai Luo shouted the command.

Yes, he could slice through these shells—but not forever.

If he remembered right…

There's more than one of those damn things nearby.

"We… we can't! Everything's been wrecked! Even the escape boats are gone!"

Truth was, some had already tried.

The moment people realized the danger, several refugees had dashed below deck, attempting to start the ferry.

But the Shogunate's sabotage had gone deeper than anyone expected. Anything that could move the boat—destroyed.

Including the lifeboats.

Still, a few of the better swimmers had silently crept to the ship's edge, hoping to jump into the water and swim to safety.

By the time Bai Luo noticed, it was too late.

"AAAAAAGHHHHHH—!!"

Their screams were short-lived.

Then—nothing.

The truth was cruel.

The Kamuijima Cannons didn't fire ordinary shells.

They launched Electro-infused charges, and once those charges hit the water…

The sea itself became a conductor of death.

What once haunted the dreams of resistance fighters… was now a nightmare come true for helpless civilians.

Bai Luo's eyes narrowed.

This place is a death trap.

On land, he'd be fine. But here, surrounded by open water...

Even he had limits.

If he switched to Quantum mode, he could evaporate himself from this battlefield instantly.

But—

He looked up.

At the very top of the ferry, Sveta was still standing there.

If I leave... she dies.

She could control water, sure.

But that didn't mean she could walk on it.

Not when the sea would soon be a boiling, electrified hell.

Bai Luo clenched his teeth.

Then—

"You think you've got the only ranged weapons here?!"

He raised his arm.

A scarlet glow ignited at his wrist, forming a ring of molten light.

He extended his hand toward the Kamuijima Cannon, now glowing again, preparing for its next shot.

BOOOOM!!

Hellfire burst from beneath the earth, a geyser of magma roaring skyward.

It didn't destroy the cannon.

But it was never meant to.

Instead, it sent the Shogunate soldiers operating it flying—blasted into the air like ragdolls.

Among them was the Vision bearer, the one responsible for stabilizing the wild Electro energy within the cannon.

Electro—unlike other elements—was chaotic by nature.

Firing it required constant regulation, precision control.

Once the stabilizer was gone...

KA-CHOOOOOM!!

The Kamuijima Cannon detonated from within, swallowed by a furious explosion of lightning and metal.
