"I remember it was a rainy day, possibly influenced by a typhoon. It rained heavily every day during that period. The small mountain village we were stationed in was at the foot of a mountain, where most of the trees had been massively deforested, leading to the constant threat of landslides and mudslides.
Back then, there was a family not accepted by other villagers, living halfway up the mountain, and it looked like they were going to be engulfed by the mudslide. At that time, we didn't dare stay in our houses for fear we wouldn't escape in time if the mudslide hit us. Mudslides are different from floods; in a flood, you might survive longer if you can swim, but with a mudslide, once you're engulfed, the chances of coming out are slim to none.
Who would have thought, that house stood firm amidst the mudslide, as if something was protecting it.
