Jiang Wanru had been waiting for Xu Nianhua to come home all day. She made some shrimp, Xu Nianhua's favorite, and the shrimp today were big. She figured Nianhua would like them.
"Huh, why isn't she home yet?"
Jiang Wanru kept looking out anxiously, checked the time, and muttered, "She's usually back home by now."
Jiang Wanru called Fei Meishu.
"Xiaoxi isn't home yet. She's practicing the piano at school today, she'll be home later." Fei Meishu explained, sounding uncertain, "Maybe Nianhua is waiting for Xiaoxi?"
"I don't know, but she didn't call us either."
Jiang Wanru's heart was pounding, her eyelids kept twitching, and she couldn't shake off the feeling that something bad was about to happen. She said, "Meishu, can you call the school and check if Nianhua has left?"
