"Your hair could use some work," Klaus's mom said the moment she broke away from the hug.
Klaus chuckled and said, "I know, Mom. It is one of the reasons why I am here."
Klaus's mom laughed and cupped Klaus's cheek, "Look at you being all cute and bubbly."
"As a matter of fact, I was just told I have a budding side to me."
"That you do. I distinctly remember when your father got you that pet snake for your 7th birthday. You never left his side and even cried that you wanted to take it to school with you."
Klaus smiled, embarrassed, "Mr. Pickles was the best. Too bad I had to put him up for adoption when we were moving to the slum."
Klaus's mom nodded, a calm and guilty expression appearing on her face as she heard Klaus's words. It brought back some unpleasant memories.
When they were kicked out of their home and were moving to the slum, they knew they couldn't bring Klaus's pet with them, so they put it up for adoption.
