Matthew really was disappointed in his father, and it wasn't only because of his decisions today. He had already seen his father as a coward and a bad person long before he ran away with the other patriarchs and hid inside the miniature universes.
He was a horrible father to Mark and a horrible warrior who ran when things got tough.
So his siding with the heavens, and even his aiding Axarax in coming after Klaus, weren't the only causes.
This was why he couldn't care less whether he lived or died.
But Matthew grew up as a warrior and knew that in a well-structured warrior team, hierarchies must be respected. He had followed orders from his superiors before, so he knew that when they said "move out," you moved.
This was why he couldn't bear to see the warriors of the ancient families die like dogs simply because their leaders had issued the wrong orders.
