Mark's eyes flashed as he took in her response, and his mouth twisted into a chilly smile.
"Yes, my dear wife, 'consummate.' As far as I know, we are married, which is your obligation as my wife." He observed her, clearly enjoying her suffering, and his voice was laced with cruel laughter.
Joan's heart pounded as she struggled to keep her calm. She was so upset when she signed the marriage contract that she didn't even read the fine print.
Although she knew that signing that contract would mean binding herself to Mark and requiring her to give up her freedom, she fervently wanted to avoid the idea of him making this demand. But she had made a mistake and didn't confront him then.
