Emily averted her gaze as her mind raced. She had devoted much time to attempting to make sense of her past and present and discover her true feelings.
Now that the truth was out, she knew there was no turning back. Their mutual trust had been destroyed, and too much had changed.
"No, Jake," she answered in a firm, although dejected tone.
"I'm at my limit now. I do not wish to rebuild something that was built on a falsehood. I've given this a lot of consideration and have decided. My desire is for a divorce."
Jake's disbelief was visible as his eyes grew wider.
"No, Emily. I beg you not to do this. This is something we can address. For us, for the kids. Keep everything in mind."
Emily answered his gaze with a stubborn attitude.
"Jake, I'm not discarding anything. I've decided to live my life how I want. I can't be happy if I'm always living in the past; what we once had is all that remains. I want Aiden and Joan under my custody so that I may go on."
