Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Setting Up

After the wolf attack it had already become really late so the goblins decided to go to sleep while Rimuru relaxed for a bit. However, that's not me. I won't waste time. Making use of this time on my hands I began training.

What would people and other monsters think seeing me? A small little slime doing backflips and shit shooting water blades left and right cutting trees in half. That mental image is simultaneously the scariest and funniest thing I've ever imagined.

There was another reason I decided to train instead. I had told the wolves that attacking the goblins meant instant death but with my presence here, who knows. Maybe one wolf's thought process would change a bit from the original and make them plot an attack. You can never be too sure.

With me outside showcasing my awesomeness there was no way they would attack the goblins. Eventually though, training gets a little boring and I end up just sitting there waiting for Rimuru to call the meeting with the goblins and wolves.

I miss technology.

Early in the morning a goblin comes running towards me. He says, "Lord Migeru, Lord Rimuru told me to come and invite you to a discussion!" He points at a nearby hut where I can see Rimuru with [Sage's Link].

A discussion? What's this about? I say, "Thank you," then bounce to Rimuru's location.

When I get to the entrance I slowly roll in. He's sitting there in the middle of the room with candles surrounding him. What a ridiculous sight this is. It looks like I've been summoned to meet the grandmaster slime or some shit. I roll up to him and ask, "So, why'd you call?"

Getting straight to the point Rimuru says, "Hello Migeru, so what I wanted to discuss is what to do with the wolves. We're kinda stuck with them now."

"I guess we need to do something about them. Do you have a plan?"

"Yes."

He does? I wonder if it has the same stupid name it has in can…

"It's called the, Let the goblins deal with dire wolves themselves, plan!"

Yup, it does. "You know, that's not very creative naming you know." I chuckle, "So what are you suggesting?"

"We'll, I'm planning to group up the wolves and goblins. Counting the number of goblins and wolves the ratio is almost 1:1. If we group them up in pairs hopefully it would help them get comfortable around each other faster."

Knowing that he already has this covered I still ask this to pretend to be contributing to this conversation and say, "That might work but just grouping them up isn't enough. We're going to need clearly defined laws to help guide them on what they can and can't do.

Even with their loyalty to us I don't think the goblins had many rules and on top of that the wolves are still unpredictable. It's been survival of the fittest out here so laws are needed to keep them in check."

He responds with, "I already have that covered! I also have another question. Can you help me present a speech?"

That catches me off guard, "Uh, no, sorry."

"Why?"

I knew my lack of experience around people from my previous life would come to bite me in the ass eventually. "Uh, we'll, I'm socially awkward. If I'm forced to present a speech I'll just freeze up. That'll probably make me look bad in front of them."

He thinks about it for a moment, "I understand. Do you have any ideas for the speech?"

I could tell him to add the clause to the don't attack humans law to help avoid the massacre during the Tempest Invasion but I won't. He needs to suffer through that to become a Demon Lord. I say, "No, that's why I asked you."

"Oh, ok!"

Further discussing the details of the plan for the speech for a little while I make obvious small additions that sound smart. The additions I make end up pretty insignificant and don't change the plan at all in the end.

After discussing the speech we leave the hut to invite all the goblins and wolves to the speech. We make sure everyone gets the news even going all the way to the outskirts of the village. After everyone's gathered Rimuru hops on top of a nearby log to present our announcement. I'm not going to speak but I am behind him for emotional support.

Rimuru in a loud booming voice says, "So, what we are going to do is group up! I will have the goblins and wolves group into pairs moving forward!"

Confused and expecting further clarification from Rimuru they stand there motionless looking at him.

Rimuru then says, "Group up into pairs of one wolf and one goblin! You understand!? Group up into pairs of one goblin and one wolf!"

Better understanding what Rimuru meant by grouping up the wolves and goblins soon begins to move around. During the move the wolves and goblins exchange awkward glances at each other. Just last night they had been trying to kill each other. Some wolf remains were still near the fence. Now they are grouping up into teams? Quite a change of pace.

After they finished grouping up there were still quite a few left over. There were extra wolves. For now we'll ignore them and deal with the problem later.

After the grouping up is complete Rimuru cheerfully says, "Yesterday's enemy is today's friend! Wait, do you all have names!?"

Just from the mention of the fact that they are nameless monsters makes them a bit uneasy. What could Lord Rimuru be planning , they all think.

Rimuru now knows a little about how important names are but he still doesn't know everything. He goes up to the soon to be Rigurd and asks, "Is it okay to name you all?"

Rigurd excitedly says, "Really, would you really bestow upon us such an honor!" He then waves for him to slow down, "Is it really okay!? You don't have to do it for us Lord Rimuru!"

Rimuru calmly says, "It's okay, I'm actually planning to give everyone names!"

The forest is filled with screaming, cheering, and howling upon hearing this from Rimuru.

It's surprising how he doesn't know how big names are. I literally had him ask [Great Sage] about them.

{Did you call?}

Not you, the other one.

{…}

The wolves and goblins then turn their heads to me for reassurance. I say, "You know what, why not!?" They cheering and howling only gets louder after that. Before the naming though I suggest to Rimuru, "I'll name half of them while you name the other half okay?"

Rimuru says, "Sure!"

First up are the goblins. They all line up extremely excited for their new names. I of course can't come up with over a hundred names on my own, that's just not possible. Instead I came up with a clever solution.

[Great Sage]?

{Answer- Yes?}

I need you to make a name for each of the goblins in front of me. Make names starting with fin more common but any name suitable for the goblins is fine. Also, make sure they don't overlap with Rimuru's names or themselves.

{Answer- Understood.

Notice- Generating goblin names.

Names generation complete.}

15 minutes of mindless naming later all the goblins are finally named. I can already feel some of my magicules a little drained.

Next comes the wolves, with both Rimuru and I naming these wolves they are actually going to get names this time. However there is one thing I gotta do first. In the batch of wolves that didn't get a pairing I noticed one of them was really big, only smaller than soon to be Ranga. I guess the goblins didn't have the balls to approach such a big wolf. That gave me an idea.

Bouncing over to him I say, "Uh, I guess wolf for now, would you like to become my direct subordinate? What I mean is I want to name you with more consideration than the others. That means I'll give you more magicules during naming and make you stronger than the others. We will be kinda like partners. What do you think?"

The wolf's tail begins wagging as it says, "You really mean it?"

I cheerfully, almost imitating Rimuru, say, "Yeah!"

With extreme excitement the wolf happily accepts the offer.

I name the wolf Ranryo(Pronounced Ra-n-ri-ou) and bounce back to my stump. I look back at him and he's already evolving into a Tempest Star Wolf. Is it happening fast because of the amount of magicules I gave him?

He develops a white star on his forehead with a horn coming out of it's center like Ranga.

I turn to the wolves now eagerly waiting for their names. [Great Sage], I need you to come up with names for the wolves. All the names need to have something to do with the idea of storms and wolves in general.

{Answer- Understood.

Notice- Generating wolf names.

Name generation complete.}

Another 15 minutes of mindless naming later the wolves are all finally named. They only evolve into Star Wolves for some reason though.

{Warning- Magicule supply is in extremely low supply.}

I just barely didn't run out of magicules! Thank god!

I turn to look at Rimuru who also didn't collapse and pass out. He looks surprised though when the wolves and goblins begin evolving into Hobgoblins and Star Wolves though. How much did his [Great Sage] tell him? Did it only give the bare minimum?

He hops on top of a Tempest Star Wolf slightly bigger than Ranryo. So he still ended up with Ranga, that's good news. Well, he is the first wolf he named.

I look at Ranryo then look at Ranga. They both look similar but not too similar. Ranryo is also weaker and smaller. My theory is that Ranryo is still subservient to Ranga even though he's under me now so he's still weaker than his alpha. That would make him a beta.

{Notice- Ranryo has evolved into a Tempest Star Wolf but remained a subordinate of Ranga. As a result he couldn't accept enough magicules to make him stronger than his alpha. This ended in Ranryo ending up weaker than Ranga.}

So out of loyalty he chose to stay weaker? That's kinda stupid. I hop on Ranryo and look around. Now it's time for that.

With the naming over with now it's time to fix the village. That means Rimuru will have to go to Dwargon soon.

As for me, I don't think I'm going to Dwargon for now. I had [Great Sage] analyze magicules back in the cave for two reasons.

1. I wanted to see if I could use them to make magic based technology, which I can, just not right now due to lack of materials.

2. I wanted to know information that would allow me to learn how to get skills faster and easier.

Skills are given to you by The Voice of the World by earning them. Your ability to earn them is based on the strength of your ego(Strength of your soul) and your magicule capacity along with other details specific to each person.

Hopefully, magicule knowledge makes learning skills easier than Rimuru. The reason is simple. Until I become a Demon Lord I'll always be weaker than Rimuru.

The problem lies in [Sage's Link]. It's not strong enough. It can only copy regular and Extra Skills so Unique Skills Shizue's will be unobtainable to me until the Unique Skill [Sage's Link] becomes stronger.

If that's the case why not absorb her myself is the question. The answer is simple, if Rimuru absorbs them I can just store the data for the skill and get it later, but because Rimuru doesn't have [Sage's Link] if I'm the one that gets the skill he won't be able to get it unless I give it to him somehow. That's a lot harder to do than just copying it. Keeping Rimuru strong is more beneficial in the long run than getting strong myself and leaving Rimuru in the dust so I'm stuck here.

Once Rimuru becomes a Demon Lord and his Unique Skills become Ultimate Skills I'll be able to get them. Reason is, only one person can have them at once according to The Voice of the World. I'll have to wait until I become a Demon Lord because I'm planning to become one at the same time he does. Until then I'll be weaker than him. I can wait but it's still disappointing to wait that long.

Wait, now that I think about it, how is it possible for both me and Rimuru to have the Unique Skills [Predator] and [Great Sage] at the same time. Doesn't that violate the rules?

The moment I begin thinking that a bright flash of light appears in my head. It's blinding!

"Augh, what was that!?"
