LIAM
This morning, I had a mental checklist of things to do, but nowhere on that list did I foresee hosting Renee and her father, Malcolm. Yet, here we were, an unexpected trio in my office space.
Settling into my chair, I wrestled with the possibilities for their unannounced visit. A vague suspicion flickered in the back of my mind, a nagging thought that I immediately dismissed. Dwelling on it would only stir my unease, and I don't need that at the moment.
Clearing my throat, I finally broke the silence. "To what do I owe this visit, Mr. Cedric?"
His eyes snapped to mine, sharp and angry. "What do you think?" he fired back, his tone dripping with barely concealed hostility.
I blinked, taken aback by the venom in his response. My brows knit together as I turned toward Renee for some sort of explanation, only to find her gaze fixed on the floor. She avoided my eyes, shifting uncomfortably in her seat. Whatever had brought them here clearly unsettled her as much as it did me.
