Chapter 5 - Luck

"Eww that was disgusting!"

"Why would you drink that Kin?"

"I'm just as thirsty and I am hungry, so I just wanted something to drink."

With a disgusting look plastered on his face, Kin notices another droplet forming at the bottom of the cup.

With the taste of the previous rust still lingering in his mouth he takes the cup once again over his mouth. Only to see that same droplet crawl to the edge of the upside-down cup, and fall into his mouth once more. With a grimace, he swallows.

"Yeah Kin don't drink all the water, give it here."

Passing the cup over, kin remarks, "It's only a drop, so don't get too excited Lovel."

"I'm not."

Lovel closes one eye and looks down into the cup, sure enough, he sees the exact spec of water Kin was talking about. Once again lifting the cup, and tasting the bitterness of a single drop.

Before another droplet could even form they began to hear what sounded like nails on a chalkboard, or much rather steel on marble. Before the boys started running Kin quickly uttered,

"Lovel, I want to see him."

"ok, but he might see us first."

With the panging screech of grinding steel getting ever closer, they sit and wait to see it. With both the boys barely breathing they were lurking around the corner. Just then a titan taller than Elgin, and bigger than Steren slowly swung the corner. In that quick second, he was able to see him.

Not wanting to get caught, the boys quickly sprang up and ran as fast as they could to the next enclosed corridor. Desperately closing the door behind them. They turned around and noticed instead of this room being a corridor, it was a hall. Much like the one they were in with Elgin, but instead, it looked to be about 4 times bigger, and not a single spec of dust in sight. Locking the door behind, them they got up, and continued to walk into the seating arrangement.

<40 chairs, wait how many champions came to this trial? 7 people get picked from 7 worlds. That's 49 people and only 40 chairs. Could there be an alternate way to pass this trail?>

...

While Kin looked to be deep in thought, Lovel decided to see what was up with these chairs. Walking up to one and pulling it out from underneath the gigantic circular table, he sat in it.

...

Kin all of a sudden saw a beam of light shoot upwards from one of the chairs, noticing a man with silver eyes and a poised look on his face.

"Lovel what the heck did you just do, how did you just do that?"

"I sat down on this chair."

Walking over Kin reaches and pulls another chair from under the circle, and sits in it. Another beam of light shot up from where Kin was sitting. Before either one of them could react to what they had just seen, one of the many other doors opened from across the room. A small group of 3 people walked in and began to walk swiftly over to the chairs as well. They were all in tattered clothes as if they had been fighting for weeks, blood, grime, and somehow dirt. They were all similarly built but you could only see one of their faces.

Another beam shot up, a man sitting in the chair across from them with seemingly two bodyguards. 1 to his right, and 2 to his left.

"Nice to meet you my name is Kin."

"Lovel."

"Name's Drone, I'm from Jhul."

"Jhul, you're sixth on the leaderboard. We're from Durbol."

"Ohh, you guys are still left. You're usually hunted at the beginning, so I was sure you guys were all dead by now."

"No Lovel and I should've died. We had another person with us, he sacrificed himself for us to live."

"Sorry... did he get found?"

"No."

"No, he was killed by Nerthol, Steren Ma."

"So you're telling me you guys escaped Steren. That's hard to believe considering you both are Durbol."

"Like I said, we should have, but why is that hard to believe."

"Steren is supposedly the best fighter in this year's Harvest Tournament for Nerthol."

"Harvest Tournament?"

"Kin was it. Right, I forgot you guys don't know anything. Since there's a Harvest every four years, each world holds a tournament to see who's the strongest, and depending on what rank you are on the leaderboard, you can send more of your tournament winners. Supposedly Steren was the only winner... because he killed everyone else who joined the tournament."

"Why would you do that for your world, that's not right."

"Every couple of Harvests you get a loose cannon like that, but this time, he just happened to be the strongest. When he gets to the Eighth he'll be disciplined if he acts out."

"What place did you get in the tournament for Jhul?"

"I didn't even pass the screening. So I got picked by luck."

"Luck, I guess I did too."

"Me too."

"Can I send you a friend request Drone?"

"Me too?"

...

"People don't usually have friends outside their worlds. It's seen as betraying your homeland."

"yeah.. I'll friend you."
