Chapter 97 - A Druid?

Was it one of those hooded figures from the tavern? The thought sent a shiver down my spine. I had to know.

Gripping the hilt of my sword, I moved towards the door, every sense on high alert. With a swift motion, I flung it open.

"Who's there?" I demanded, my voice echoing in the empty hallway.

I scanned the corridor, but there was no one in sight. Suddenly, the door across from us flew open, and a gruff voice boomed, "Keep it down! Some of us are trying to sleep!"

"Sorry, sorry," I mumbled, feeling a flush of embarrassment creep up my neck. The door slammed shut.

But how could the shadow have vanished so quickly? I had opened the door almost instantly, and there was nothing there. Had they teleported? Or turned invisible? Or was there no one there to begin with?

Was I imagining things? The possibility was there, but I doubted I was going crazy. The most likely explanation was that whoever was spying on us was incredibly skilled at concealment.
