People were dying. The situation around the world was bad. Christian had been told that countless times by the people around him, but his own surroundings had always been relatively peaceful. Even when he was attacked, he had never truly felt threatened, and because of that, part of him had never really understood how terrible things had become for ordinary people.
Now, standing in the middle of Harrisburg, he finally understood.
Harrisburg had never been among the worst places in the world, yet the people walking through its streets looked different from those he remembered. Their gazes were wary, their steps hurried, and there was a tension in the way they watched their surroundings, as if danger could appear at any moment.
"Why are you so surprised? It's not like we haven't passed through worse places on the way here."
Anastasia's voice came from beside him, pulling Christian out of his thoughts.
