Chapter 4 - 4.) Chakra control and theory

Yuto

After waking up in the morning and eating a few fish Jiraiya caught, we began the trek to Tnazaku. The morning was quiet, which was unnerving for me. A quiet ninja is a thinking ninja. I don't need Jiraiya thinking too much about me.

During my time before falling asleep a plan slowly began forming in my mind. Learn all I can from my Jonnin sensei, and then takeoff to really prepare for the war coming. I have about 3-4 years before it begins and I'm already behind in terms of experience.

As we were about a mile from the town, Jiraiya stopped us, "alright, let's do some training and then we'll eat lunch at one of the stalls."

I nod and speak, "my head hurts. My eyes are always on. Is there something that can help?"

I focus on Jiraiya, both to see what his reaction is to my revelation and to focus on something. I've found in my limited time with these eyes that helps a bit.

Quickly he pulls out a bandage and wraps it a few times around my eyes. I instantly get relief from the overwhelming amount of information being thrown at me.

I hear the toad sage chuckle at my visible reaction, "alright, now to make sure nobody can see through it," he mutters before speaking in a full voice, "stay still."

I respond in affirmative and begin to feel a brush begin to make a pattern on each of my temples before Jiraiya mutters a "Kai," and I see a small barrier of chakra surround my eyes.

"Cool, what is that?" I say already knowing.

"It's called sealing jutsu. Something very few in this world still have expertise in." I nod and decide to keep it at that for now before speaking again.

"So, what exactly are we doing?"

I see him smile and instantly feel like I've made a mistake.

Jiraiya

After an hour of warming up, which included push-ups, sit ups, pull ups, and running I decided it was time to start the theory of chakra.

It was especially surprising to see Yuto not super drained after an hour of working out. So my senses were right, his chakra reserves are immense. "Alright kid," I begin, "time to talk about chakra. The very basis of life."

What followed was my best interpretation of an academy teachers intro to chakra. However, when I got to the part of yin and Yang Yuto interrupted.

"Wait!" He said and i did. "So yin and Yang can be described as physical and mental?" He asks for clarification. At my nod he continues.

"What about the other chakra I see all around us?" Ah, so his dojutsu is even more impressive than I thought. I fight to keep the smile from my face as I give a reply.

"That'd be known as nature chakra. The most powerful chakra in the world. It comes from the world around us. The trees, the sky, the ground. All of it has chakra running through it. It's denser and stronger because of the amount of it around us."

For the first time since I started my discussion he truly looks like a kid listening to his teacher. "Wow! Can it be harnessed?" He asks.

That stops me short. It can. But it's dangerous and can lead to many horrible outcomes if you're not careful. Telling it to a kid just being introduced to chakra theory is not a good idea. "Yes. But promise me you won't try to access it without my direct supervision." I say as serious as I can.

He nods, "okay. But wow. It's incredible looking. That's one of the biggest issues with my eyes. There's so much of it everywhere. I can't help but see it."

I nod, understanding it must be incredible to see chakra the way he describes it. I begin to think we should try to understand his eyes better. "What else can your eyes do?" I ask him.

He shrugged, "I don't know. I woke up an hour before you found me."

I nod but reply, "just look at me. My chakra."

He doesn't say anything for a few minutes. Then he speaks something that surprises me. "Your chakra is made of two colors. Red and mud brown."

That….was incredible. To be able to pick apart the nature of someone's chakra by looking at them is amazing. But also dangerous. Everytime he speaks about those eyes of his the more I realize how much I need to protect him.

Slowly but surely he's becoming more and more important. Maybe Konoha isn't the place for him. But where could he go? Damn it.

I'm broken from my thoughts by the young man in front of me, "can we actually start using chakra now?"

I laugh. "Come on," I say getting up and walking to a tree. A few steps later sees me in front of the tree with Yuto to my right.

"Watch." I say and don't explain anything else. I put my right foot onto the tree and then my left, standing parallel to the ground on the tree, my back a mere inches from the ground.

I walk all the way to the top and turn to face my charge who looks unimpressed. I sigh, kids these days have no respect for sages and their accomplishments. "Your turn," I say to him.

He nods and goes to put one foot on the tree but stops, looks at me for a second then proceeds to lay it on the bark. Next he did the same with his left foot and did the same as me. Standing on the tree with his back inches from the ground.

My mouth fell open as he began walking up the tree like it was the same as doing so on the ground. "Okay what the hell?" I ask when he reaches me.

That same nonchalant shrug comes in. "I don't know. Just saw how your chakra was flowing and did the same."

I shake my head. "Okay, now you need to be able to stick to it like it's second nature. I'm going to spar with you on here so that we can both work on your fighting style and also get you used to using chakra for long periods of time. This will not only strengthen your body, but also your chakra channels."

He nods and I make a shadow clone to catch him should he fall from a high place and we begin the spar. I smile knowing I'm about to get him back fro shocking me with getting the tree walking down so easily.

Yuto

'Who knew being a ninja hurt so much?' I think to myself as I begin stretching out on the ground covered in mild bruises and small cuts.

My torturer, wait sorry, teacher Jiraiya speaks while standing over me. "This is where we'll focus our time on the way to Konoha. It doesn't matter how good your chakra control is if your body can never keep up."

I nod, knowing he's right. My eyes allow me to control chakra perfectly. If I ever want to be able to learn how to use nature energy I need to be able to handle it physically.

After a about an hour of kunai practice we began another bout of sparring. I surprised myself when I ducked an incoming kick and planted my own fist right into Jiraiya's liver. Or at least I thought so until I felt his hand tighten around my wrist and throw me a few feet away.

I landed on my feet but didn't have time to move again when I felt his hand on my shoulder. "Alright. That's enough for today."

I nod and begin gathering my things to go get something to eat.

Following Jiraiya's lead I ask a question I know the answer to, "how did you appear behind me so quickly?"

"It's called a shunshin. If you're physical capabilities reach the threshold I expect before we reach Konoha I'll teach it to you."

I became excited. While it's a simple movement technique, it's ability to surprise someone with a fast enough shunshin should allow for a decisive blow to end the battle.

As we sit down to eat I began to truly come into a rhythm in this world. But I know something others don't, Konoha is about to be a warzone. And I need to be ready to either hide or fight. Only time will tell which.
