Chapter 44 - Chapter 43: Not just a match

Chapter 44

"We will have a brief intermission of five minutes due to the barrier breakdown between Jayden Reginald and Levi Henso. Please, Nadia Samir and Simon Zain get ready," the speaker said as he disappeared in a puff of smoke.

"How does he keep doing that?" Jayden wondered as he teleported back to the mage section.

"Dude! Don't just be teleporting randomly in front of people. I almost got a stroke, oh goodness." Ren complained as he placed his hand on his chest.

"Oh sorry about that, want a cookie?" Jayden smiled as he offered a small pack of cookies to Ren as he sat next to him.

"Who do you think is going to win?" Ren asked as he collected the cookies and munched on one.

"Obviously Nadia. Just watch." Jayden said with confidence as he watched Nadia pass the scanner.

Her hands shook slightly as she walked into the ring and looked at her opponent.

He was dangerous, she could feel it. He wasn't carrying a weapon, which was out of place and seemed suspicious and strange but the most unsettling feeling was the smile he had on his face.

She had seen it before, in his last matches, he enjoyed torturing people during their fights.

She felt like she might lose. The feeling of pain and headaches came to her again but she gritted her teeth and suppressed it, after all, she had been doing it for days.

Ever since Ren's friend, Derik got his magic activated and she went home, she hadn't been feeling herself.

There had been this pain in her mind and she couldn't remember what exactly happened in the restroom.

She had already met a doctor but they said it was probably stress after finding nothing wrong with her.

Her opponent, Simon, looked her all over, not in the way a boy looked at a girl but in that of a slave.

"From the house of Samir, the daughter of the famous scholar, welcome Nadia Samir and hailing from the house of Zain, our kingdom's top security and protection organization, Simon Zain!"

He looked perfectly normal, nothing unique like other people except for his devilish smile. Height, looks, clothes and everything else, all perfectly normal.

 "Ready on both sides?"

"Yeah."

"Yup"

"Then fight" The referee shouted as he exited the ring.

Both rivals stood still even after the fight began, analyzing each other for a second.

"He uses lightning magic, so he probably has the power to create swords due to mana manipulation as well as his advantage in long range supposing he's skilled as well in magic. Whatever, let's go all out. "Aura extension: Still Waters"

Suddenly a rain cloud manifested in the sky and rain started to pour heavily over the ring.

The whole ring became wet except for Nadia, as the drops shifted the moment they came close to her and formed puddles all over the ring.

"He's fast." Nadia thought as Simon started sprinting towards her.

Five icicles appeared at Simon's side as he grabbed one and aimed it at Nadia.

"Ice?" The icicle stopped a few meters from Nadia, turned to water and started to swirl around her.

Not wanting to waste any time thinking about why he could use different elements she responded with consecutive arc like water-discs which Simon dodged with lightning fast accuracy and precision .

"It's okay, I can handle two at once…."

".…there's still hope for me to win. That's what you're thinking right? Nadia Samir. I can't wait to see what face you'll make as you scream for forgiveness." The sadist laughed as electricity began to envelop him and he closed the distance instantly.

His hand enveloped in lightning, he swung out it out aiming for a horizontal hit across her torso but after countless practice with swordsmen she was already used to fast-paced sword attacks, so she was able to jump back at the last moment and raising her hand, she froze Simon's leg in one place.

Following up, while focused on the ice all over his leg, a huge water fist slammed into him breaking both the ice and sending him flying.

Cracks of ice and water blocked their vision as both opponents were on separate sides of the ring.

Suddenly, three bolts of electricity and ice respectively shot out at Nadia who by skating on the water dodged them.

From the first attacks, Nadia had deduced that Simon was probably using copy magic due to the fact that both his skill in ice magic and lightning magic was beginner level. Secondly that water mages could control ice but ice mages couldn't control water magic so she could outmaneuver him in a battle of attrition.

While still brainstorming, Simon appeared from the mist, a wide grin on his face, his arms outstretched going for her face.

The punch connected dazzling Nadia as she slid back a bit.

"Something's off." Simon thought as the punch didn't do as much damage as it was supposed to.

At the point of impact, Nadia had used vapour control, shifting his hand subtly thereby reducing the force of the attack

Raising her hand with a smirk and snapping it, all the rain drops around Simon stopped mid air and exploded causing a chain reaction of exploding raindrops.

Still preoccupied with the raindrops, Nadia continued with a barrage of water arc slashes. The first slash hit Simon dead in the stomach but focusing and sending a wave of electricity, he destroyed the remaining attacks with ease.

Not stopping, Nadia continued with the water barrage but Simon responded with a barrage of ice, the two canceling each other.

Nadia, although dealing more damage was panting more, due to her headaches acting up and constant attacks while Simon looked slightly better although having received more attacks.

"Time to end this, it was short but I don't like dragging out fights.

Aura extension: Thor's Playground. Rain of Mjonir"

A bolt of lightning pierced through the cloud, one, two, then a barrage of lightning struck down and dispelled the clouds.

Nadia found it hard to dodge it and was struck multiple times by the lightning.

"I'm not done yet. Electric floor." Simon shouted as he brushed his soaked hair back and stomped the ground to which a current of lightning burst out of and began to shock Nadia who was already stunned by the bolts from earlier.

"Don't you know that water and electricity is a bad mix, princess?" Simon cackled hysterically as Nadia screamed in pain.

Blood started to pour from her eyes as trying a last ditch effort she summoned water icicles.

Due to lack of concentration she wasn't able to sustain them and they fell back to the ground.

"Oh is that so, you're not done yet, right? Right?" Simon shouted as he raised his hand and multiple ice spears formed above him.

"As long as you don't die, I'll just be given a scolding at most so live, live for me Nadia Samir." Simon cackled even louder as he commanded his attacks towards Nadia.

The barrier holding the ring went down as the fight had escalated out of control too fast.

Luke and the official jumped down, about to stop the attack but they were already slightly too late.

"BREAK!"

Logic disruption

A power born forth from unknown forces that defied all the laws set since the beginning of time.

Although magic came to be and people were able to do extraordinary feats it still fell under the categories of a law.

A foundation law was one as "No human being shall posses more than one magic core."

This law had held true before the one known as Jayden Reginald came to be.

Unconsciously, Logic disruption, a supposed lifeless power had copied all the magic cores of every person Jayden had set his eyes on since he was born, not at sixteen.

The power was already active from birth but it had stayed mute, protecting his life at critical moments but erasing the memory immediately afterward.

So as of now, Jayden had over countless magic cores hovering in his body, waiting for their use. And it was for just this unique characteristic of Logic Disruption that put it in a league above every other.

Logic disruption truly is a power unworthy of even gods.

"That's enough." Jayden said coldly as he punched Simon squarely on the face.

A cracking sound was heard as Jayden had forgotten to hold back in his anger.

Simon was flying through the ring with speed his consciousness slowly leaving him, but he could clearly see Jayden who was still moving towards him with speed. Gritting his teeth, he threw countless projectiles at him but Jayden simply vanished and appeared above him.

Using his leg to drive Simon into the ground, the ground shattered beneath them and tiny pebbles flew into the air.

Mid air, the pebbles stopped and rotating at high speed, they slammed into him the second Jayden jumped off him.

"That you are breathing even now is nothing short of my mercy to you." Jayden whispered, his voice fully laced with venom.

Teleporting to Nadia, he stood at the other side of the officials who were trying to heal her. Her body was badly bruised, her fingers twitching and blood seeping from her ears and eyes.

"Hold on a second Nadia, I'll heal you." Jayden said, angry he didn't stop the match earlier as he started to use his mana to heal her.

"I know this is a competitive game." Jayden whispered slowly, but it reached the whole stadium "..But if anyone goes overboard like this ever again, I'll make sure they regret their decision for the rest of their lives." Jayden swore.
