Chapter 413: A Chance to Benefit
To be honest, Sun Wukong did want to participate, but he knew he had a mission to complete. If he joined the Golden List Livestream, it would undoubtedly take up some of his time.
At this moment, he hesitated, and Tan Sanzang, noticing his thoughts, spoke up.
"Wukong, are you thinking about joining the Golden List Livestream?"
"No, Master, I'd better not. If I go, it'll definitely take time, and then I won't be able to accompany you on the journey to the West."
"Wukong, I can see right through you. You want to go, don't you? Since that's the case, then just go. If you gain something from it, you can improve your strength. Once you're stronger, won't you be even more capable of protecting me?"
"That's true, Monkey Brother," Zhu Bajie chimed in. "You should go. I don't feel like walking right now anyway. It's way too hot! We might as well rest here for a while."
"Yeah, I'm too tired to walk too. Let's take a good break here!"
Even Tan Sanzang wiped the sweat from his face. "What kind of weather is this? Since we can't walk now anyway, Wukong, you should go. If you manage to place in the rankings, we might even get a bit of the benefits too!"
At this, Sun Wukong made up his mind and declared, "Alright! I'll go now!"
"Mm, go ahead!"
With that, Sun Wukong shot up into the sky. Before long, he arrived at the Golden List Livestream. After familiarizing himself with the competition rules, he unexpectedly ran into Ye Tian at the entrance.
Ye Tian hadn't expected to see Sun Wukong here, so he looked over and remarked, "You're here to join the fun too?"
"What do you mean 'join the fun'? I'm here to compete in the Golden List Livestream!"
"Hmph, I'm the only one who can find the Sun-Shooting Divine Bow this time. The reward is definitely mine. You, on the other hand, won't have a chance at the prize… but then again, if you participate, at least you can get a participation reward."
"Participation reward?"
Sun Wukong clenched his teeth. "Are you mocking me? Listen, I will find the Sun-Shooting Divine Bow!"
Ye Tian eyed Sun Wukong, amused by the monkey's determination. With a smirk, he said, "Since you're so determined, let's see who wins!"
With that, Ye Tian left, while Sun Wukong's heart was in turmoil. To be honest, he was feeling quite nervous. He didn't know if he could really find the Sun-Shooting Divine Bow in this competition.
If he couldn't find it, he wouldn't be able to win first place, and he'd have to settle for the participation reward.
"Ye Tian looks down on me that much? All the more reason for me to prove myself! As long as I try, I will find it!"
Determined, he steeled himself for the challenge.
Meanwhile, back with Tan Sanzang and the others, an unexpected visitor approached them.
A fox spirit, disguised in human form, walked toward Tan Sanzang and teased, "Oh my, where did this little monk come from? He's quite handsome!"
Seeing the beautiful woman approaching, Zhu Bajie's eyes lit up. "Master, look! Where did this lovely lady come from?"
The fox spirit chuckled. "Yes, you're right. I am indeed very beautiful. But I'm not interested in you—I'm interested in the little monk."
Tan Sanzang, keeping his gaze down to avoid impropriety, said firmly, "Bodhisattva, please return to wherever you came from. I do not wish to converse with you."
He knew very well that this woman wasn't an ordinary person. If he wasn't mistaken, she was definitely a demon. And what terrible timing—Sun Wukong had just left, and now trouble had arrived.
Zhu Bajie, however, was as clueless as ever. He still hadn't realized she was a demon. Grinning, he said, "My lovely lady, where are you from? Do you live nearby? If you're lost, I can escort you home!"
The fox spirit looked at Zhu Bajie with disdain. She found him utterly irritating—no normal woman would ever like someone like him. With his pig-like appearance, he was downright hideous.
"Why do you have a pig's head?" she asked.
"You're asking why I have a pig's head? That's because I'm Zhu Bajie! Haven't you heard the legend of Zhu Bajie?"
"The legend of Zhu Bajie?"
The fox spirit giggled. "I've never heard of it. Why don't you tell me all about it? How did you end up with a pig's head?"
Zhu Bajie was momentarily annoyed but quickly brushed it off. Since the beautiful woman was interested, he happily started recounting his past heroic deeds.
After listening, the fox spirit smirked. "Ah, so it's because you harassed Chang'e in the heavens, and the Jade Emperor was furious, so he punished you by turning you into a pig. You shouldn't blame anyone else—it's your own fault!"
"What nonsense! This is all the Jade Emperor's fault. He was just jealous, which is why he turned me into Zhu Bajie! If I were still my old self, I bet you'd fall for me instantly!"
The fox spirit, now thoroughly annoyed, found Zhu Bajie utterly shameless. His exaggerated bragging was nothing more than an attempt to keep talking to her. She thought to herself, This pig-headed fool is truly pathetic.
