Chapter 52 - Chapter Fifty-One: Distant Memories and Immediate Fires (아득한 추억과 눈앞의 불길)

Lee Ji-seo's POV (Point Of View)

I looked at the buildings we drove past. 'I bet my parents are already here by now. I wonder how they are,' I thought inwardly.

I took out my phone and got a notification from my mum. She sent me a photo of her and my dad in a hotel room.

A small smile crept on my face, "Cute," I said, staring at the duck face they were making. My mum probably forced my dad to do it with her.

"What?" I heard Min-ho say next to me. I turned to him to find him staring at me in shock. "I was looking at something on my phone," I quickly told him to avoid any misunderstandings.

"Oh," he said with embarrassment before looking back at his phone. I sent a heart emoji to my mum before taking a pic of the buildings we passed by.

"Hey, everyone, why don't we make this bus lively? How about we sing a song?" Mr Song suggested. Everyone in the bus looked at him, then continued what they were doing before he interrupted them.

"I should have given a no-phone rule," I heard him mutter before he sighed. I looked at him in pity before turning to Min-ho.

"He's kinda right. It's really boring even though everyone is doing their own thing," I whispered.

Kim Min-ho POV (Point Of View)

I turned to her immediately after she finished speaking. When she noticed that I wasn't saying anything, she let out a nervous chuckle and was about to look at the window when I let out a hum in agreement.

"It's not really boring to be honest," I said, looking around before looking back at her. "Back home, in Nigeria, anytime we were going on a school trip, students sang a lot of songs in the bus to make it lively," she said with a smile, reminiscing about her school life back home.

This is the first time I've heard anything about her life, and I need to know some things about her since we're friends... I think.

"Do you miss Nigeria?" I asked. She nodded, "Yeah, I do. I miss my school life back there, and I also miss my friends."

"Don't you guys talk anymore?" I asked when I noticed her low mood. "We still talk, but not as much as we used to," she said with a forced smile.

"Well, you've got new friends here to keep you company," I said, trying to lift her mood. Her eyes brightened up, "Yeah, you're right."

Her smile, which brightened her face, caught my attention, and I couldn't stop staring at her. A small smile appeared on my face, 'Wow, she's so pretty,' I thought to myself.

After realising what I said, my cheeks heated up in embarrassment. I quickly looked down at my phone and tapped an app icon to make myself appear normal, even though I'm dying inside.

Ji-seo looked down at my phone and noticed I was in the IG app. "Oh, that reminds me, why haven't you posted anything on your IG? I know some people don't like posting, but they post on their stories, but you're a different case," she said in confusion.

I shrugged, "I just don't know what to post." "Here's an idea. Since we are on a school trip, how about you take pictures of the scenery if you don't want to post yourself. And here's another idea: you can post your shadow if you still want to keep up with your mysterious personality," she suggested.

'How did she know I don't post anything?' I thought to myself. Then I remembered she follows me on IG.

"Oh," I replied, "Can I post one now?" I asked. "Sure, if you want to." I nodded and stared at the phone in my hand for a bit before looking back at her, "I don't know what to post."

"I'm sure something would come to you, don't rush it," she advised. The bus came to a stop at our first attraction.

"Okay, kids, we have arrived at our first attraction for today, and we will be accompanied by a tour guide today," Mr Song spoke up.

Everyone yelled a 'yes', then began getting off the bus. I got off the bus and waited for Ji-seo to get down when I saw Arin walking up to me.

"Where were you last night?" She asked, her eyes staring deeply into my face. I sighed in frustration. I already knew she knew where I was last night, but she just wants to start a fight.

"I was stuck in the woods," I replied, and was about to walk away when I noticed Ji-seo was getting down from the bus. I sensed the pending doom in the air and turned to Arin, grabbed her arm, and walked off with her.

"Hey, let me go!" She yelled. I let her go after I made sure we were away from the crowd, but not too far. "Don't try any fun tricks, Arin. I'm warning you. We are no longer in Seoul, so it's best you respect yourself," I warned.

She scoffed at my words, "Why are you protecting that bitch?!" "I won't tolerate you calling her a bitch, or any girl a bitch. Mind your words," I warned her again.

"You were with her last night, right?" She said, her voice laced with anger. "I told you I was stuck in the woods, and she and Ha-ri so happened to be there too. I've already told you this, Arin. I don't want to be involved with you anymore. Call off the engagement, or I'll do it myself. Publicly," I added that last part firmly.

"So you want to leave me for that bitch?" She yelled. "What did I just tell you?" I asked her in anger.

"Hey, kids, what's going on?" Ms. Choi asked in concern. She looked at me in confusion, probably confused why I just blew off because it's unlike me.

"Can you please tell Arin that I don't want to be involved with her anymore? It seems like she has selective hearing," I calmly told Ms. Choi, but my eyes never left Arin's.

"You can never get rid of me, Min-ho. Not for anyone, not even for that bitch!" Arin yelled out in anger, pointing to Ji-seo while giving her a harsh glare.

Ha-ri quickly pulled Ji-seo behind her, giving her somewhat protection in case Arin tries anything funny.

"That's enough, Arin! You're going to be with me until this school trip is over," Ms. Choi said harshly.

"It's best if you listen to her, or you really like the idea of expulsion," I warned. Arin turned to me with a glare and walked off.

Everyone stared at Ji-seo, and I could see her shoulders slump from the stares she was getting. She looked at me with a forced smile before Ha-ri pulled her away.

"Doesn't Arin have any self-respect? We all know they are together because of business, and now that Min-ho doesn't want to keep going, she's acting crazy. Poor Ji-seo. Getting caught up with their mess," I heard the students whisper among themselves.

"If a tear drops from Ji-seo's eyes or if that crazy fiancée of yours tries something stupid, I'm coming for you," Taemin threatened before hitting my shoulders with his when he walked off.

"She's not my fiancée anymore. I called off the engagement," I said, quickly stopping him in his tracks.

"So now you're moving on to Ji-seo, right? I'd love to see you try. Stay away from her," he warned.

"Why do you care? It's not like you're in love with her," I asked. Taemin stayed silent before walking off.

"He's not in love with her, right?" I asked myself, staring at him. Either way, he's also not a good match for her.
