After dinner, Sunny went to his room. He locked the door behind him and summoned his new memory.
[Touch of Frost]
Memory Description: [ Once a disease plagued a kingdom, it turned a walking person into a beautiful glacier statue within days. The people stared at those statues, awed by their ethereal beauty. No one seemed to understand why the people didn't run away or try to cure the disease. Slowly but surely, the kingdom fell. Only a few managed to survive and lived another day to spread the tale.]
Despite the creepy description, the arrow wasn't that powerful. It contained only two enchantments. It was confirmed by instructor Naomi.
He needed to get the lineage of weaver fast.
The arrow had an icicle tip. The shimmering finish of the icicle tip reflected the room's light beautifully.
Once the arrow hits its target, it will slowly freeze its target by releasing a frost wave in its body. Even though the effect was good, to let the frost wave do some actual damage, he cannot summon the arrow back.
It was a one-time arrow, meaning an archer will have another arrow memory as his main arrow, which he can shoot continuously.
Some arrows can be summoned back immediately after they hit the target. Unfortunately, his one doesn't have this property.
He has to dismiss the memory and summon his memory back to use it again. It will cost him around 10–12 seconds.
However, it's perfect for him.
The second enchantment allowed it to pierce easily. This was the one he needed the most. It would allow him to have at least some success against lower-class awakened creatures.
Satisfied with his memory, he dismissed it.
Suddenly, his communicator dinged.
Unknown number: Make sure to learn how to make a bow.
Flabbergasted, Sunny read the message.
How did she even get my number? The government did a poor job of maintaining privacy.
'Oh damn, I forgot about the bow.'
Exiting his door again, he walked towards a particular section of the academy.
Standing in front of a familiar room, he looked at the sign.
[Memory trade.]
A group was maintained by some volunteers who acted as a catalog for sleepers. Not all sleepers needed the memory they got from their first trial.
What will a sword user do with a bow? It is rather beneficial to trade it for a sword.
And that's what Sunny was aiming for.
He asked the person in charge to put up a notice for trading a short sword. He asked for a bow memory in return. After some paper work, he was free to return to his dorm.
From what he could guess, the original Sunny either missed it or, even if he noticed it, he didn't have any significant memory, which he could trade. Nobody will be willing to trade a sword for a bell.
Him getting a sword in his first trial was a non-canon event. Back then, he didn't know he would be using it like this.
...…..
The days passed quickly. Sunny was extremely busy preparing for his visit to the dream realm. Being already scouted the crimson labyrinth to some degree, he was making a temporary map to organize his plan. Of course, he was doing it in his head rather than making an actual map.
You never know what may happen in the future.
Currently, he was walking to Memory Trading's place. A middleman has asked Sunny to be present there. It seemed like his trade had a match.
Upon entering the room, he saw a beautiful girl waiting for him. He knew her from previous loops, Sleeper Chloe. She had long black hair with brown chocolate eyes.
On a second thought, he shouldn't call a minor beautiful; 2024 was crazy.
(Say Drake, I heard you like them young :)
Summoning his sword, he walked towards the girl. Another person entered the room; he looked to be in his early twenties. He was there to supervise the deal.
"Sunny."
He introduced himself.
Looking at his sword, the girl began to summon her bow, and silver sparks appeared around her.
"Chloe. I thought the sword would be bigger."
"I specified that it's a short sword," Sunny replied.
Giving the sword to the girl, he took the bow from her.
He gave it a glance. The bow wasn't particularly good-looking. It looked rather mundane. Made of wood, it was best to call it a long bow.
"Enchantments?" Sunny asked.
"I got it after killing a dormant devil. It should have two enchantments at least or a single very powerful enchantment."
"You don't know what they are?"
The girl averted her gaze.
"Well, I got mine after killing a dormant human. It has one enchantment, and I know what it is."
Silence filled the room.
"Don't feel guilty; the trial creates illusions."
For the first time, the man spoke. He was looking at his communicator all this time.
"That's not a fair trade; I got mine from a devil, and you got it from a human."
He understood. His memory tier would be I, and hers would be IV.
"You don't even know what the enchantments are. I need to find them. You are basically giving me a mundane bow made of extremely good materials."
Chloe fell silent. After sometimes speaking,
"It's okay, then. What enchantment does it have?"
"It can create light. You can also use the heat to make fire, it takes some time."
"A glowing sword?"
"Yeah, trade then?"
"Trade."
Both of them dismissed their memories. Sunny made his sword glow before dismissing it.
The supervisor spoke then.
"Do a handshake, and will your memory to be transferred. Confirm after receiving it."
Sunny had done it three times before.
[ You received a memory.]
He felt his sword leave his soul sea.
"Got it."
"Me too."
The supervisor pushed his communicator towards them.
"Both of you sign here; we won't be responsible if any of you guys say, "I didn't receive memory." later. By signing, you are confirming that the trade is complete."
After signing it, none of them waited anymore. The man left faster than your dad left to get milk. Chloe walked towards the girl dorm and Sunny to his.
Chloe may not know the enchantment the bow has, but he does. And it's quite good.
Sighing, he reached his room.
AN: I am not sure if i handled the interaction fine, I am weak at writing conversations, some pointers will be helpful.
Also please donate powerstones or add it to your collection, I motivates me to write more.
I am thinking about the FATE-CASSIE paradox btw, with his ability sunny can basically change fate however he wish, some ideas to counter it will be helpful. I have some cooking but a different perspective will be helpful
