The entire board might as well be a firing squad. The air crackles with disapproval that makes my hair and Daji's ears stand up.
"HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MINDS?" Waverly roars, and Pazuzu flaps his winds to create a windstorm, demonstrating his support.
Fuxi, not normally one to agree with Waverly or Pazuzu, agrees. "Trust Lamashtu? I like that! She lives for deception!"
Mom and Dad are livid, and Gram and Gramps. They never encountered Lamashtu, but their anger stands.
"That ... that ... WOMAN wanted to eat you up," Gram says. "And in that Door of a Thousand Doors, she treated you like a plaything."
I huff, resting my hands on the smooth conference table. "Gee, thanks for the reminder. I never would have remembered."
"A leopard doesn't change her spots, nor a donkey her ears," Loki weighs in, but there's something brewing in his gaze that makes me think he, at least, understands a little. "And if you believe her convenient story, you're an ass."
