"That's one down... What the hell is going on here?" (Aluemia)
The streets crackles with electrical fire, the sound of burning tinder and sparks permeate the immediate vicinity. Even with all the precautions and technological innovations, when lamp posts are so thoroughly destroyed they will still expose wires. That is not to say that in these countless millenia since the origin era technology has not progressed one bit. Fires escape houses, the electrical grid was built too robust to stop.
If one were to ask now, humans were fully capable of making their houses sturdy with their multi alloy arrays and intricate engineering. But what would be the point of making your home indestructible in the era of abundance? Why would you go so far as to reinforce lamp posts and walls of your typical family home? What if they wanted renovations? To sell the property? To build other complexes or facilities?
Indestructible houses make advance precision tools necessary just to tear down a single wall, renovation and property costs would surge to the point no one could afford it. Everyone is given a small sum of money by the government for housing and food related expenses, even in this era not everyone was an oil tycoon that could casually get multiple property deeds or leases. Even ignoring the cost, it wasn't that practical to make your walls bomb proof in the unprecedented peace of this era. War will not happen, conflict will not brew. In peace time, most people live with this specific branding of hope.
The vampires were successful in holding back the military's main body of drones, and even the magical girls. They look to be barely contained at every residential zone, props to the advance weaponry and coordination of tactics by the human army. The wyverns are also being held back by the latest fighter jets moving at march 30 packed with mach 90 missiles.
After disposing of a few more vampires, Aluemia, Baron, and Ernesti caught their breaths once more. They've been moving about all day, none of the could imagine how the situation was like in the other zones. Thankfully the government acknowledges the existence of the supernatural and has deployed the planetary military. The AI models cannot sense the presence of magical particles, so the drones have to be commanded by human operators.
The vampires and wyverns first appeared spontaneously from various crevices, as if they rose out of the sewage system. Miniature pockets of darkness, inbetween houses, behind lamp posts. But they quickly surge in population. 2000 vampires and a few wyverns might not seem like much, but when they can move at a minimum of mach 10, a single one can ramp through multiple houses and reach the other end of the residential zone in one go, causing countless casualties.
Even now, the drones were relying on numbers to rain plasma at their targets, the strategy was to prevent their movement and wear down their magic deploying the barrier, then get them when their magic runs out. It was far too dangerous to let them roam free, anywhere but the front and the vampires could destroy the drones with their bare hands. The only saving grace lay in how the drones outnumber the vampires by several magnitudes. There were around 20 fighter jets and wyverns, their numbers were much more evenly matched.
"Their protection is gone, deploy the magic reactor missiles. We could never imitate their ingenuity in technology with our scarce resources, so the only way forward was to explore an uncovered tech tree that lay in the arcane." (Ledaine Termina)
On that day, 2500 suns bloomed bright in the residential zones, covering the entire earth in scorching black clouds. Yggdrasil was defeated, Eterna was sealed. Was this the end of humanity?
"... The anti air defences couldn't track the missiles utilising magic to conceal their presence... They flew in faster than the wyverns, no one could react." (Baron)
A glass wearing brunette spoke, her inner hair was usually coloured a more vibrant reddish brown but it had been soaked in grime and blood. Her magical girl outfit was similarly unkempt from the continuous combat, soot covered autumn themed dress with various burns and tears. They hadn't rested the entire day ever since they sensed the vampires coming. They killed more than a hundred vampires and believed they were making progress.
"... What was stopping them from deploying those missiles at the start? They were systematically gutting every force we had... Keeping us busy with their main force to deploy their true weapon..." (Ernesti)
Short black hair with a cyan accented white vest. With exposed shoulders and black inner wear, the white vest wrapped around her biceps and stuck close to her stomach, followed by a white short skirt and full black leggings.
The A grade sentinels and the divine authority behind the world government. These were the last threats holding them back, the sentinels might be able to intercept the bombs. Though they were easy to deceive with the main army. Previously designated as S grades under this era of peace, their designation changed due to arrival of the heavenly kings showing real S grade mettle. The heavenly kings' data closely matched the S grades mentioned in historical records, previously believed to be only myth. Their forefathers couldn't stake their wisdom on myth and changed the designations to be more practical, no one could have seen the future and predicted this. No one is to blame.
In roughly 25 spots, the missiles were truly intercepted. For Ledaine, thankfully there were 2500 missiles. The missiles couldn't fully cover the earth, they roughly matched the destructive capability of atomic bombs in the origin era. Those on the outskirts like these 3 magical girls or in the other zones could remain unscathed. They all targeted the school buildings at the epicentre, where population is the most dense. The vampires main forces were also situated near there, having pushed against the military's forces the entire day.
Roughly 25% of humanity perished that day.
"That's it. They couldn't possibly only aim at the schools. Their target from the very start is us... They crippled the army with those missiles.
There's nothing left to prevent the stragglers from ganging up on us." (Aluemia)
Her straight blond hair shivered in the wind, darkened a few shades by the flying soot and ash. Her lime green cloak and long skirt resembling winter coats, had taken a rough beating from prolonged battle. Her companions wordlessly nodded to her assessment.
