Chapter 39 - Chapter 39

There was no sounds atop the mountain besides Atlas's bellowing laughter, and Luke's sighs of relief.

Thalia, the only one who understood how bad this was, grit her teeth, "Shit."

"What?" Annabeth gulped. "What's going on? I thought you said he was winning?"

"And I also said that all it takes is one card to turn the tide," Thalia told her. "Basically, Yuno is not only in danger of losing his monster but is also in danger of maybe even losing the game… Atlas is in position to deal 3000 points of damage to Yuno's life points. If that happens, he'll be in a really bad spot."

"Then… You are saying that he might lose and become Atlas's slave?" Zoe asked seriously. That was very bad for them. They all knew how skilled I was with weapons, and I'd been using the scythe the longest. Scythe wielders were tricky to fight against, especially those who knew how to use it. Combined with my abilities of shadow and fire…

"Damn, and we can't interfere," Penny cursed. "Still… There's still a chance he can win, right?"

"A chance?" Atlas snorted. "He wishes! I activate my Continuous Trap Card – Wrath of the Titans! When a Titan monster I control deals damage to the opponent, then they take damage equal to half of that total!" He grinned. "Since you'll be taking 3000 points of damage when I attack, then you'll take a further 1500 points of damage! Which means-!"

"That he'll lose!" Thalia's eyes widened.

"Oh no!" Penny gasped.

"Oh no!" Zoe gulped.

"Oh no…" Artemis whispered.

"Oh yessss!" Atlas grinned. "I enter the Battle Phase! I attack your Blaster Dark! Skyfall Fury!"

Enduring Atlas leapt into the sky before he surged down towards Blaster Dark, unleashing a flurry of punches- each one containing the power of a Meteor within them.

"Yuno!" The girls all cried out!

I, however, remained calm. As Atlas's attack was about to hit, I merely tapped my Duel Disk.

BOOM!

Dust kicked up, obscuring me from view as the attack landed.

Atlas began to laugh. "Hahaha! He may have tricked me, but it seems like he wasn't as good at this game as he thought he was!"

"Damn it…!" Penny gritted her teeth and began to ready her sword, only for Thalia to lift an arm to stop her. "Thalia, what are you doing!?"

"Wait…" She murmured. "I remember Yuno telling me something about this… 'If smoke obscures the field, then it's not over yet.' Something like that."

Their eyes immediately turned back to the battlefield…

I swung my arm, unleashing a small gust with my powers to clear away the dust- revealing that I was still standing just fine… And on my field was Pandora the Dark Apprentice, twirling her staff with a mischievous look.

Yuno LP: 4000 --- 250

"What!?" Atlas's eyes widened. "You should have lost! How are you still standing!?"

"You think you're the only one with Trap cards?" I asked him, gesturing to my field to reveal both of my Trap Cards were flipped up.

"But I am unaffected by your spell and trap cards!" Atlas growled.

"Who said I used them on you?" I countered. "When Blaster Dark was destroyed, I activated 2 Trap Cards. The first card I activated was my Trap 'Mischief of Pandora.' When a 'Sin' or 'Pandora' monster I control is destroyed, I can Special Summon 1 monster with Pandora in its name from my Deck or my Graveyard. The card I chose was Pandora, the Dark Apprentice."

"But that doesn't explain why you still have life points!"

"That's where my second card comes in," I pointed at it. "Pandora's Magical Illusion. When I would take effect damage, I reduce that damage by half and banish a 'Sin' or 'Pandora' monster in my Graveyard."

The ghostly silhouette of Invidia appeared, coiling around me and hissing at Atlas.

"Then, Pandora's effect. When she is Normal or Special Summoned, I can add 1 Level 4 or lower 'Sin' or 'Pandora' monster to my hand," I pulled a card free from my Deck. "I add 'Avaricia the Craving Sin.'"

Atlas grit his teeth. "Tch… You are only delaying the inevitable! When I attack, I change to Defence Position at the end of the battle."

Enduring Atlas took a knee, and his arms lifted as he was forced to bare the weight of the sky.

"I end my turn. At this moment, my ATK and DEF switch once more."

Enduring Atlas ATK: 4000 --- 0.

Enduring Atlas DEF: 0 --- 4000.

Atlas Hand: 2.

Yuno Hand: 3.

"Good…" I chuckled. "No set cards, huh? With the knowledge in your mind, there's no way you wouldn't set one… So, those cards in your hand are just monsters you can't summon, right? I doubt they are hand traps either."

"Don't get confident just because you survived!" Atlas snarled. "In case you haven't noticed, I am on the field, and you cannot destroy me! With my incredible defences, you can't break through! You have no chance at victory."

"Final Turn."

Silence rang through the mountain top.

Thalia smiled slowly, warmly, "It's over," she said.

"What do you mean it's over?" Penny asked.

"Whenever Yuno says Final Turn… It means that the Duel is going to end that turn… In his victory," Thalia said confidently.

"But how can he turn this around?" Annabeth asked in pure confusion and frustration, she wasn't used to not knowing something.

"Just watch," Thalia nodded.

I slowly placed my fingers on top of my deck, closing my eyes solemnly.

Everything has led up to this moment.

Card Creation… Duel Spirit Creation… Saving up those points to buy both of those skills…

Winning that Capture the Flag game had barely netted me enough points to buy Duel Spirit Creation… With those two skills in hand, I had the power of a true Yu-Gi-Oh protagonist.

But my skill had told me that Duel Spirits couldn't just be created out of nowhere. There needed to be a catalyst, something to use as the fuel for the creation of the Duel Spirit. Something could not come from nothing.

At that time, I had thought to myself… What if I used my own Soul as the forge for a Duel Spirit?

My eyes slowly opened.

'Now… At this moment… My soul will stop being human.'

"I draw!" I pulled a card free from my Deck. The card glinted with golden light that flowed into my Extra Deck…

I reject my Humanity, Jojo!

"I activate Avaricia's effect," I declared. "I discard one card from my hand," I slipped a Spell into the Graveyard. "And Special Summon Avaricia to my field."

Avaricia the Craving Sin

3 Star – DARK – Fiend/Effect

The dark frog monster appeared on my field, chest puffed out and glaring at Atlas.

"Then, I normal summon Gula the Hungry Sin!"

The black boar jumped out of a portal and landed on the ground, golden eyes glowing with intense ferocity.

Gula the Hungry Sin

1 Star – DARK – Fiend/Effect

"I tune my Level 1 Gula with my Level 3 Avaricia and my Level 4 Pandora!"

Gula let out an 'oink' before it burst into black ring that enveloped both Pandora and Avaricia. Their bodies vanished, leaving behind black stars that contorted and twisted with the energies of the Netherworld- even though this was supposed to be a regular Synchro Summon. The sheer nether energy contained within the coming monster was just too much to contain.

"Emptiness is the root of all things…" I pulled a card free of my Extra Deck, teeming with Dark Energy as I poured my very soul itself into the card. "Revolt. Destroy. Defy. The Demon rises from Oblivion!"

Dark light- so black it was like a glitch in the world- descended through the ring.

1 + 3 + 4 = 8!

"Synchro Summon! Appear in darkness, my other half!"

Floating in the dark abyss, a silhouette was barely visible. It was huge, floating in the sky.

"Level 8!"

It slowly lifted its weapon- a scythe…

"Original Sin, Blangdmire!"

And with a mighty swing, it cleaved the Darkness.

Everyone couldn't take their eyes off of the demonic entity… Wearing a black cloak, with claws on its hand and feet, a pair of silver horns curving out the top of its head. Its tail was long and purple, scaled, with a pair of violet, feathered wings flowing out of its back. On its shoulder rested a giant black scythe with a deep purple blade.

Its purple eyes- one hidden beneath a patch and glowing gold- shone with dark intentions as they stared down at Atlas indifferently- as if he were just a mere ant before him.

Original Sin, Blangdmire

Level 8 – HELL – Demon/Synchro/Effect

Nobody made a single sound as they stared at the creature floating above them... It was as if its twisted presence demanded respect, commanded authority that left them unable to stop looking…

"What… What is that thing?" Zoe gulped, a bead of sweat falling down the side of her face.

"That… That isn't normal," Annabeth spoke with a shudder. "Even not knowing about this… That thing isn't normal!"

Even Artemis was shaking slightly, as if the creature she was staring at was the complete antithesis of everything she was.

"Is…?" Penny swallowed. "Is it just me or… Does it kind of look like Yuno?"

Thalia's eyes immediately snapped onto me… And she could see it. It was a small resemblance, barely noticeable… But it definitely looked like me…

Especially given the fact that my left eye had become a shining amethyst purple, just like Blangdmire's.

"H- Heh…?" Atlas scoffed. "Is that it? You had me worried for a moment there, I will admit… But your monster isn't strong enough to defeat me! Like I said, once I arrive on the field I shall never leave!"

"Such limitations… Don't bother me," I told him. "Blangdmire's effect. I negate the effects of all face-up cards my opponent controls."

Atlas's eyes widened. "What!?"

Blangdmire swung his scythe, purple feathers slowly descending onto the battlefield…

Enduring Atlas fell to both knees as his powers were drained from his body, the weight of the sky now looking unbearable for him.

"Furthermore, Blangdmire can change the Battle Position of all monsters my opponent controls to Attack Position."

Enduring Atlas groaned as he was forced to stand while carrying the sky's weight, looking weak and vulnerable as he was forced into Attack Position.

"No…" Atlas stared in shock. "No, this can't be! I had it won! How did this happen!?"

"To you, this is just a game…" I told him. "But to me? This is my life. Did you think I would lose a game with my life on the line? This is a battlefield where I won't lose when it comes down to the wire… And your time is up…"

I pointed at him.

"Battle.Blangdmire attacks Enduring Atlas."

Blangdmire slowly lifted his scythe into the air, deep violet and black energies gathering around the blade as his purple eyes shone with sadistic delight.

"Apocalypse."

Blangdmire swung down his Scythe…

And cut Enduring Atlas and the sky itself in two.

"N… NOOOOOOO!!" Atlas roared as the dark energies tore apart his monster self and then shrouded him in a thick black miasma- making him scream in agony.

Atlas LP: 3000 --- 0.

WINNER: YUNO FUJI!

Blangdmire floated down to hover in front of me as the Duel Zone collapsed, the wind blowing once more atop the mountain.

The black miasma slowly faded away, revealing Atlas's body bleeding with golden blood. He coughed and glared. "Ha…" He snarled. "You made a mistake, boy! You should have made me wear upon the Styx! Your little 'Duel Zone' as you called it may have caught me off guard, but there's no way I will follow its rules!"

He slowly cracked his knuckles. "I hope you are ready boy, because-!"

"Foolishness," I told him. "Do you think my Duel Zone is as forgiving as Styx, who is forced to let Gods and Titans get away with breaking oaths sworn upon her? My Duel Zone… Doesn't acknowledge your authority as a God. We made a deal… Now you will fulfill it."

"Don't fuck with me!" He roared as he prepared to charge before his body suddenly locked up. "W- What…? Why can't I…?"

He slowly turned and began to walk towards Artemis.

"No… No!" He roared in anger. "No, this can't be! This can't be happening! Why can't I control my body?"

Luke, seeing the situation had turned unfavourable, quickly ordered the Dracaenae to leave the mountain with the coffin- all of them hurrying down the side of it and leaving Atlas behind.

"No! Come back here! This isn't…!"

Atlas's hands slowly reached out and voluntarily took the sky from Artemis.

The Moon Goddess quickly moved away from Atlas and to Zoe's side, breathing heavily… Even for a God, holding the sky was no easy burden. Artemis had exhausted a lot of energy and needed to recharge.

"This can't be happening…" Atlas was no longer yelling, instead his face was filled with despair.

I just smirked and turned away from him. "Take this next hundred years to reflect on your poor choices… And know that you never really stood a chance against me from the start."
