~Kaden~
I didn’t sleep at all. Amelia finally passed out around four, her face still wet from crying, one hand curled over her stomach like she was protecting the baby even in her sleep.
I kept my palm right there the whole time, feeling those tiny kicks. It should have calmed me down. It didn’t.
All I could think about was Blake still out there somewhere, breathing the same air as my mate and my kid.
By the time the sky started to turn gray I couldn’t stay in bed anymore. I slid out from under her, tucked the blanket tight around her shoulders, and pulled on jeans and a black hoodie.
No boots. I didn’t want to wake her. I leaned down, kissed her temple, and said real quiet, “I’ll be back before you open your eyes.”
She didn’t move.
I stepped out the back door and hit Caleb with a mind-link right away.
Get the best trackers. Training field. Now. No trucks yet.
His answer came fast. On it. What’s going on?
Blake’s still walking around freely, I need to fix that.
