Daylight bathed the streets of modern-day Tokyo as another school day began. Students flowed through the gates of a local high school, their voices blending into the familiar hum of morning conversation. It was an ordinary day, or so it seemed.
A young boy wearing glasses walked quietly through the crowded hallway. Dressed in his school uniform and carrying a backpack over his shoulders, he made his way to his classroom.
He slid the door open.
Inside, his classmates were already deep in conversation, laughing and chatting without a care in the world. None of them knew that their peaceful routine was about to come to an abrupt end.
The young boy in glasses surveyed the classroom, now bustling with conversations among the tenth-grade students. His attention soon settled on another boy quietly seated by the window. Just as he was about to speak, a familiar voice called out to him.
"Oi! Oi, Tatsu! Over here!"
A voice rose above the chatter in the classroom. Tatsu turned toward it to see one of his classmates energetically waving him over. Beside him stood two other boys, grinning as they motioned for him to join them.
Tatsu made his way through the classroom, weaving between desks until he reached the three boys. A faint smile crossed his face.
"Hey, Haru... Daiki... Kenji."
"Hi." Haru greeted Tatsu with a gentle smile. The shortest of the group, he had black hair that partially concealed his left eye, giving him a quiet, reserved appearance.
"Morning, Tatsu." Daiki raised a hand in greeting. He was a blond student with a neat bowl cut, his calm demeanor contrasting with Kenji's energetic personality.
"Wassup?" Kenji flashed him an easy smile. Tall and broad-shouldered, he had messy orange hair and wore his school jacket open over a short-sleeved shirt, giving him a relaxed, carefree appearance.
"Man, our last game was really tense, huh?"
"Yeah! We finally took down the hardest boss in The World of Erasia Online."
"That's right! We all got wiped, and you were the only one left. You actually clutched the fight!" Daiki exclaimed.
"I-If it weren't for you... we'd have had to run all the way back again." Haru shuddered at the thought. "...And that run back was an absolute nightmare."
"Honestly... I never would've figured out the boss's attack patterns without his help." His eyes shifted toward the lone boy seated by the window, quietly watching the world outside.
"Uh, hey, Hiroto, wanna join us?"
The lone boy by the window, Hiroto, had neatly cut black two-block hair. He looked at Tatsu with a flicker of surprise crossing his face. Though he seemed tempted to join the conversation, he remained silent and turned back to the window, watching the world outside.
Kenji let out a laugh. "Seriously, Tatsu, how'd you get Hiroto to talk to you? I always thought he wasn't interested in talking to anyone."
"I simply asked him for some help. He's basically a pro at The World of Erasia Online"
"Really?" Said Haru.
"Yeah. That's how I managed to beat that boss."
"Ooooh..." Daiki placed a hand under his chin, considering the idea. "I see. Maybe we should ask him for a few pro tips later."
Kenji glanced at Daiki with a skeptical look. "You sure about that?"
"Yeah. My build's garbage."
"Haha, alright. Let's try talking to him, then."
The three boys had barely taken a step toward Hiroto when the shrill ring of the school bell echoed through the speakers across the entire school. Conversations throughout the classroom quickly died down as students returned to their seats.
A moment later, the classroom door slid open. Their homeroom teacher, a bespectacled man carrying a leather briefcase, stepped inside and made his way to the front of the room.
"Alright, settle down now."
The homeroom teacher opened his leather briefcase and removed a history textbook. Setting it on the podium, he flipped it open before looking up at the students and beginning the lesson.
The teacher turned to the page in the textbook. "For today's lesson, we'll be discussing...."
Throughout the history class, Tatsu remained focused, sitting beside Haru while carefully recording the teacher's words in his notebook.
But the sound of girls giggling nearby caught his attention. He turned his head, and his gaze immediately settled on a girl who stood out among them. She wore a sailor-style school uniform, and her brown milk-tea bob hairstyle framed her face as she laughed warmly with a friend beside her.
Tatsu continued staring at her quietly, his expression unreadable, until a small paper ball struck the side of his head.
Confused, he turned around and saw Daiki and Kenji covering their mouths as they laughed. They had clearly noticed where his attention had been, and Kenji teasingly made a kissing motion, which sent Daiki into a fit of laughter, slapping his leg as he struggled to breathe.
Tatsu wasn't bothered by their antics. After all, he knew his friends well enough to understand that this was how they were. Even Haru, usually the calmer one, ended up laughing with them.
The teacher paused mid-lesson and glanced toward the boys with a disapproving look.
"Excuse me. If you boys would prefer to keep fooling around, I'm sure the principal would be happy to have a word with you in his office."
Without waiting for a response, he turned back to the blackboard and continued writing.
Their laughter quickly died away, and the classroom settled into silence once more. Kenji leaned back in his chair, his hands laced behind his head as he listened. Beside him, Daiki rested both hands on his desk, giving the teacher his full attention.
Haru sat quietly with his pen tucked beneath his chin, carefully thinking over the lesson. Meanwhile, Tatsu lowered his gaze to his notebook and resumed writing, his pen steadily filling the page with careful notes.
Silence settled over the classroom as the students listened attentively, carefully writing down the teacher's explanation.
Without the slightest warning, intricate circles of glowing incantations materialized beneath every student's feet. Their mystical patterns pulsed with light before erupting into a brilliant flash that engulfed the entire room.
In the blink of an eye, the students were gone. The classroom, once filled with voices and the scratching of pencils, was left eerily empty. Only the homeroom teacher remained, frozen in stunned silence.
As the brilliant light faded, the homeroom teacher slowly turned away from the blackboard. His eyes swept across the classroom: empty desks, empty chairs, and not a single student remained.
"Ah!" He staggered back in shock, his face draining of color.
Panic seized him; he burst through the classroom door and sprinted into the hallway. "Satō-sensei!!" He cried, his desperate voice echoing throughout the school.
Elsewhere, a colossal magic circle etched with ancient incantations blazed to life upon a wide stone-bricked floor, its radiant light flooding the grand chamber. In the next instant, dozens of students materialized within its bounds, collapsing onto the ground in a chorus of startled cries and groans.
Groans echoed through the chamber as the students slowly climbed to their feet. Bewildered eyes darted from one unfamiliar face to another before sweeping across the enormous hall surrounding them.
Confusion quickly gave way to fear. None of them understood what had just happened... or how they had been torn from their classroom and brought to this mysterious place.
Haru looked around blankly, unable to make sense of his surroundings. "W-What just happened?" he asked, his voice trembling with confusion.
Kenji frowned as he scanned the grand chamber. "Did we... get teleported or something?"
"Welcome! Honored heroes!"
A commanding voice echoed throughout the grand chamber, immediately capturing the students' attention. As one, they turned toward the sound and saw a mage dressed in an elegant red robe adorned with gold trim, steadily making his way toward them, followed by six other mages behind him.
"We summoned you here because our world is in desperate need of your help. Countless monsters have descended upon our land, and we ask that you save us from them."
A wave of silence swept over the students as they looked at the lead mage. Their expressions were a mixture of shock, confusion, and denial, struggling to comprehend what they had just heard.
