A chill came upon her.
Madelyn raised her eyes to find the king's on her. Shocked, she quickly turned away. Her heart lurched. From the corner of her eyes, she saw Mr Brand turn too. Honeymoon? Hers and his? They would not possess such a marriage. They would not possess a marriage at all. Therefore, there would be no reason for a honeymoon.
"Madelyn Stanhope?" he called in an askance.
She inhaled sharply, her heart falling another rank. Turning immediately again to him, she gave another bow. "Yes, Your Majesty."
His smile pulled to the right. "It is good to finally meet you. Don't you agree, my dear Guinevere?" he turned to the queen, who simply smiled. Madelyn swallowed.
"How do you fare?" The queen asked calmly.
"I… I am well, my lady—Your Majesty!" She corrected herself hastily. Oh God!
"You are currently living at Mainecroft Hall." The king chided lowly, "I think you should be more than well."
