The carriage pulled closer to the mansion. Lady Wilmot had come calling?
It was barely two o'clock. How had she arrived so early? Had she tired already of her amusements—the other estates she could visit, the endless social gatherings, and the countless meetings she pledged herself to? Why had she created an excuse to impose herself upon his home?
It was not the first time he had returned after weeks away, and it was not the first time she had come calling upon his arrival, but even she could ascertain that the visit was wrong. It was the first time she had come visiting as soon as he arrived. Did they possess such a relationship?
He exhaled sharply. He was not in the proper mindset to entertain her. Edgar had lost a correspondence for the lost ship and he was refusing to be angry.
