Chapter 39 - Mecha Lord A

Cami and Myne were just standing around minding their own business when all of a sudden, Carter's mom appeared seemingly out of nowhere, slapping them both on their shoulders from behind.

"Want to do something interesting?" she said.

Her arms now lying on one of their shoulders, with Cami on her left and Myne on her right.

'What does she want to do now,' both of them thought to themselves?

As there were many wondering where Page got that adventurous and outgoing personality from. Given who raised her after all. Neither Carter nor her mom was like that when growing up, that what she was since Page had been young. Though there were many of the older villagers from the generation before her who swore up and down that Page takes after her, even though she was merely being raised by her. That while Carter, her mom, and Page did not see themselves as family. Page saw Carter's mom as her guardian and the mother of her best friend. While cm was the same, she did not see Page as her daughter either. Just the girl who grew up with her son, whom she was taking care of as the dying wish of her parent that was found dying near the village entrance.

"Let's go to a human settlement, just the three of us," Carter's mom said.

"Huh!?" Cami said.

"What" Myne replied.

"The entire South belongs to your lord, right," she said.

"Of course, it belongs to him," Cami said.

"And I am the one who should be in charge of this region too," Myne stated proudly.

"I see you two do love to repeat that. How do you tell me something, Cami? You are your lord's only subordinate, but if he asked you your name somewhere outside this village and forest, could you?" Carter's mom asked.

"Don't make me touch you directly….again" Cami said, glaringly at her.

Cami went to adjust the oversized shirt sleeve that she wore to this length so that she could interact with things without draining them or herself in the process.

Myne then started laughing at Cami at how true that statement was

"Oh, are you laughing at the fact that, despite being the one who is supposed to be in charge of this region, if I asked you the same question, you could only recall an isolated ghost village," Carter's mom said, gesturing towards her.

Myne then stumbled at this truth that she was presented with. Despite her claims of being one of the three automatons that serve directly under Cami and Page. Those who served directly under Southern Guardian himself. I only know of an isolated ghost village that was in ruins.

Neither realized that they were once humans themselves and that they originally had memories from before they had come to live in this settlement they called home. Cami just considered everything in the South as belonging to her lord. Myne was not viewing her home village as such, just a place she knew of, as she was the overseer of this entire southern region of her lord's territory.

Carter's mom was a native of the village, the settlement once was before everyone was roboticized into the automatons they were now. However, unlike everyone else, she did view the Southern Guardian as her lord. That was because the person she was under was the Southern Guardian at all but her son, Carter, in actuality. How and why was something none of them really cared about; thus, the question never came up. The only one that ever knew this was not Cami, Myne, the residents of the settlement, or even Carter's mom herself. It was just Myne and Carter who knew and would address it casually, and Page, who knew but never cared to voice that she knew. It was just one of the numerous things she did, but never acknowledged she did. When Carter confronted her once with this, she just brushed it off.

"Yeah, and she would" they reply as she just brushed it off as nothing important. Like she has just been told the sky is blue or water is wet. Something so obvious that deep down she felt insulted that the topic was even brought up in the first place.

Cami and Myne sighed as they agreed with Carter's mom.

"Fine, but only somewhere close," Cami said.

"Yeah, nowhere outside of what I am supposed to, the overseer of" Myne told her.
