Once Felix saw that the mentor assigned to him was Urokodaki, he instantly knew he would be learning water breathing.
"So you are Felix" Urokodaki mumbled.
The Kakushi then left Felix with Urokodaki. He looked back one last time and thanked the Kakushi.
"Come inside" Urokodaki ordered.
Felix followed behind him and they entered his house. They sat down together and Urokodaki started to cook some fish.
"Why do you want to be a demon slayer? It's a very dangerous profession. I don't like teaching new students because of how many have died during Final Selection. What's your motive?" asked Urokodaki.
"This might sound crazy, do you know Yoriichi Tsugikuni?" Felix asked in response.
Urokodaki stopped cooking the fish.
"Yes of course, why?" Urokodaki questioned.
"I might sound insane when I say this, but he wants me to kill Muzan Kibutsuji" Felix answered.
"Felix, Yoriichi has been dead for 400 years, how do you know that he wants you to do that?" said Urokodaki.
"I know, but Tanjiro saw Sabito right? So it is possible" Felix said.
"How do you… How do you know that? How do you know those people?" Urokodaki asked in a confused state.
Felix knew he messed up.
"Look, please help me become a demon slayer, at least help me pass Final Selection" he said trying to change the topic.
"Fine, the next Final Selection is in one and a half months, do you think you will be ready in that time?" Urokodaki asked.
"Yes, let's do it" Felix responded.
Over the next month and a half, Felix trained to his limit everyday. He was dedicated to being able to pass Final Selection, and most importantly, slice that boulder. One of the tests Felix was tasked with was being able to get down from a mountain and back to Urokodaki's house. During the mountain test, since Felix had watched the anime, he knew about all the traps and when and where to avoid them.
"How on earth does he know about the traps" Urokodaki contemplating to himself as he watched Felix run down the final part of the mountain. "It's like he's a time traveler".
After a couple more weeks of training, Felix was finally tasked with the boulder slicing test. He had already been struggling to learn the water breathing techniques so he knew this was going to be difficult. He picked up his blade and attempted to slice the boulder, to nobody's surprise, it didn't work. Urokodaki had left and requested that Felix came back once he had sliced through the boulder.
Suddenly, just like in the anime, Sabito appeared in front of Felix.
"Sabito?" he asked.
"How do you know my name? I don't think we ever met" Sabito responded.
"Oh I uh- Urokodaki told me about you" Felix said lying.
"Well, i'm sure you know what's about to happen then" Sabito exclaimed.
Sabito then jumped towards one of the trees in the forest and kicked off it propelling himself towards Felix. He tried to block Sabito by swinging with his blade but Sabito dodged him mid-air.
"Wow it's just like the anime!" Felix thought to himself as he attempted to keep up with Sabito's movements.
"You're trash, you will never become a demon slayer" Sabito kept repeatedly saying.
This angered Felix a little. Just then, Felix channelled all his anger into his grip around his blade, and quickly appeared in front of Sabito. He then closed his eyes as he swung his blade and for the first time used water breathing first form, water surface slash. When he opened his eyes again, Sabito was gone, and instead he had sliced the boulder in half. He was ready.
Urokodaki then appeared behind him.
"You have done well, none of my students have been able to slice the boulder in such a short amount of time, well done Felix" Urokodaki explained "Let's go celebrate".
The two of them sat down in Urokodaki's house for a big meal.
"So how's Tanjiro doing?" Felix asked.
"I'm surprised you know who he is! He is just recovering from his battle in the entertainment district. Funnily enough he woke up from his coma yesterday, so I am going to pay him a visit after you leave tomorrow" Urokodaki explained.
Felix continued to eat and thought about his big day tomorrow. He was going to be taking place in a Final Selection. He could only dream of this happening to him, he knew he had to make Urokodaki and Yoriichi proud.
"Get some rest Felix, you have a big day tomorrow" Urokodaki said as he stood up to turn the light off.
As they both said goodnight to each other, Felix quickly fell asleep. He started to dream of this grandfather clock, and how it ticked and ticked. Suddenly, when the clock let out a chime sound, he woke up.
"That was so weird" Felix thought to himself as he closed his eyes trying to get back to sleep. Unfortunately for him, he couldn't. He watched as the sun started to rise.
All of a sudden, Felix started to feel afraid. He felt like water breathing was not the right breathing style for him. He had only managed to learn one technique of water breathing in one and a half months of training. He felt like he was not going to be able to pass but then he felt a hand touch his shoulder.
"It's time Felix, let's get you ready" Urokodaki said standing behind him.
Felix then got up and got dressed into his uniform. It was the same uniform Tanjiro had worn in his Final Selection exam from the anime. He instantly recognized it. Urokodaki then gave him a blade and prepared him to be sent off for the exam.
"You will do great, after Tanjiro did the impossible and killed that Hand Demon, the Final Selection exams have been easier for the students" Urokodaki explained.
"Okay, I won't let you down" Felix said as he grabbed his belongings and got ready to leave.
He then left Urokodaki's house and looked back one last time. Urokodaki was standing there, waving. Felix waved back, took a deep breath, and prepared for Final Selection.
