"Agree to their terms," Howard finally said, his voice as light as a sigh, "all of them. But demand Mexico commit to utilizing at least fifty billion US dollars in reserves during and one month after the Olympics, to support key market positions. We need time, even if it's just an illusion."
His deputy noted this down but hesitated, "Minister, the Prime Minister's Mansion might strongly oppose, as this is tantamount to surrendering financial sovereignty."
"Prime Minister?"
Howard gave a bitter smile, "He won't be Prime Minister for much longer. The Cabinet has reached a consensus that after the Olympics, regardless of the outcome, he must step down and take responsibility for all this. What we must do now is ensure that when he steps down, this country hasn't started consuming itself."
