Alaini raised an eyebrow and said, "When you chose to cooperate with them, didn't you anticipate this kind of situation?"

"Just thinking about getting the Mirror of Eight Handbreadths and then making a quick getaway? Did you think they were dignified people of high society who wouldn't renege on their verbal agreements?"
Alaini shook her head and said, "That's the biggest difference between you and Veronica. As the church's facade, you've interacted too much with those well-dressed folks, imagining this world as too ideal, basing all thoughts on sincerity, goodwill, and virtue between people."
