Setting aside unforeseen calamities, wars rely on logistics, and resources are their foundation. The more resources one holds, the more strategies one can employ, increasing the chances of victory.
After fusion, the giant biological space mothership took away all usable materials from the defensive battle site within the Star System, located outside the atmosphere of the Seventh Planet.
So Chen Fei's task was to mindlessly mimic this process, collecting materials for reuse, accumulating strategic material resources in preparation for the next war.
